Media Ilia Topuria's coach confirms he is done at 145lbs, wants Charles Oliveira in May

Ilia consistently going for the fighters on a decline. Volk was an obvious one post Islam kicking his head into Andromeda

Then Max who we all overrated post win over an extremely overrated Gaethje.

Now a past it Oliviera who does not have the same substance that he once did after his career second win.

Olivera past it?? What?? Olivera is still at his very best now. He just dominated Chandler completely and prior to that went to a split with the younger Arman, and prior to that he KOd Dariush inside one round.

Ilia walking around at 187 makes him one of the bigger cutters in the UFC at 42lbs.

Did you read the interview??? His coach said he's having too tough a time making weight and can't do it anymore. He's not going for the title but just moving up and taking on contenders. Nothing wrong with being honest.

I know, but he is 27 and while I'm sure the weight cut sucks, it makes me wonder if he can't make it or more so doesn't want to make it anymore?

In any case, if that is *truly* his reason (vs. what DC hypothesizes, for e.g.), then it is fine. I'm certainly not a big fan of extreme weight cuts and wish it was not part of the sport.

It does potentially suck for his legacy though. Ask Cejudo and Conor how their legacies were affected by not prioritizing title defenses (and that is despite winning two belts). The wins over Volk and Max are huge for Ilia, but defenses still matter. Everyone in the 'GOAT' discussions has a lot of defeneses.

I have never heard Movsar speak before and am fucking impressed with his English!

Walkign around weight is the stupidest shit ever. Some Joe Rogaine retard shit.

Mighty Mouse walking around as an obese fatass at 200 lbs don't make him a LHW or MW. Illia being a fat ass at 187 doesn't make him a MW or WW. Now if we can talk about body weight with the context of body fat %, then we might be on to something. But walking around weight by itself don't mean jack shit. Only the dumbass newbs fall for it.
Bro Volk was a 220lb'er

I think he's being honest. What motivation would he have to leave FW with easier fights to take on bigger guys in a weight class up, and contenders to start? He could be giving up champions pay to move up too, if he's got some deal in place for that.

He can crack many chins in LW for sure and one of them is Oliveira's.

Good pick for him.

Hard to say he's a duck when I doubt Evolev makes it past rd 2 with him. And Volk is on slide. Actually a good move n makes that Islam v Illa match happen which will be huge assuming g he beats Charles . Also gives Charles a chance at a huge win..

This is really annoying, Topuria vs Movsar and Topuria vs Diego Lopes were both great matchups that totally should've been next

It seemed like we were going to see a new FW GOAT surpassing Aldo, Max, and Volk - but he's undersized at LW. He might be able to beat one of Oliveira, Islam, and Tsarukyan, but I really doubt he would go 3/3 against them

youre telling me he is the same Charles who was on a tear right before the Islam fight? Chandler should not even be mentioned he has sat out for years, isn't very good whereas Arman is a valid shout. by past it I do not mean finished no, just on the tail end of his career and is 35 as to me he isn't quite as sharp as he was two years ago even if very dangerous still.

Ilia still has contenders to face at 145. He hasn't cleared out the division just yet...

As long as he vacates I’m cool with it. Charles might be a surprisingly tough match up. He’s got an underrated takedown game and hits like a truck with a more than solid kicking game as well. Jai Herbert put ilia on skates so Charles definitely has that ability

Also respect to him for not calling for an immediate Title shot

Where is he keeping all that weight? Dude is 5'7 and not built like a tank or anything.
