Ilia Topuria: Islam Makhachev 'Can Get In Line' If He Wants to Return to Lightweight

All due respect to Islam but Ilia is in the driver's seat for any and all fighting ventures going forward.

I love the trash talk though. They are both CLEARLY following each other's every word and as long as they both win, we're not far from an epic confrontation in the octagon.

I don't see why people like Topuria. He did the same shit at 145 pounds.

Max Holloway did an interivew on Joe Rogan saying something like "Brother, he didn't want to fight anyone in the top 15".

If Topuria wins, he's gonna sit out for 8-12 months and say no one is worthy of fighting him.

He’s looking past Olives and I think he will be looking up at the lights from the canvas after Oliveira knocks him out or chokes him out.
I seriously hope so. I think Oliveira can bully Topuria with his size. Get the clinch and shove him against the cage, and just work for a takedown.

If things don’t work out for Islam Makhachev in his venture to welterweight, he won’t have an immediate title shot waiting for him in the lightweight division.

At least, that’s how it will be if Ilia Topuria has a say in the championship pecking order. “El Matador” will face Charles Oliveira for the vacant 155-pound strap at UFC 317 on June 28. Makhachev vacated the belt to pursue a title shot against Jack Della Maddalena at 170 pounds. A date for that fight has not yet been confirmed.

“You know from the beginning, he wanted to give the impression that he had some sort of decision,” Topuria said during a recent press conference. “He also said about a week ago ‘My move up to welterweight isn’t going to matter because I’m not planning on vacating my title.’ You remember that right? And I had said before that, I didn’t move up to lightweight to ask anyone for anything and that I was the one in charge.

“So who got their way, who did what they said? As always, him or me? So after this fight when I have the belt, he can get in line, which is a long one and someone’s eyes will be shining.”

Makhachev didn’t seem enthused about the possibility of facing Topuria when the featherweight champion initially announced his plans to move up. The Dagestani standout also stated on social media that he didn’t plan on vacating the lightweight belt. However, it appears that the promotion was not going to allow Makhachev to hold up the lightweight division while he pursued a title in another weight class.

Lol, shut up dumb manlet

Why does this little fucker talk like he doesn’t have a boss that tells him when/where/who he’s gonna fight?

Is he just visualizing? Like how he changed his nick name to “the Legend” for visualizations sake, only for him to get shamed into changing it back to matador???

Lollll

STFU dude.. you didn't even debuted in the division

Also El Notorio should be thanking Islam for moving up... because he wasn't gettingthe belt with Islam around.

Islam will get an immediate shot at the belt if he decides to go to 155 again. Having said that, he literally has a bigger fish to fry in JDM.

Topuria's got Conor in his soul and a massive hard-on for Islam. If JDM sends Islam back to 155lbs, what the fuck can Ilia do about it? Nothing. This little fella's about to find out size really does matter. And Ilia would get beaten like a red-headed stepchild at WW.

Where did he say he wants Islam to go back down to LW?
Obviously he wants to stay at LW if he's telling Islam to get in line at LW.

Islam wants to be a three weight champ and will actually go for a MW title if he wins at WW.

Midget Topuria staying in his lane even though he claimed to want to be a three weight champ lol

I like Ilia and the energy he brings, but this is just delusional. Beating 145 past prime champs doesn't mean you can hang with Islam, who is the P4P #1 for a reason. It reminds me when everyone was calling out Khabib after he retired. Easy to talk shit when you know you probably will never fight him.

Yeh, 33 year old Max is so past his prime at 145 that he still hasn't had a hard fight against anyone in the division not named Volk or Topuria since 2013 when he lost to Conor lol.

If Topuria can wreck Max and Volk while Islam is having hard fights against Dustin, then Topuria can definitely wreck Islam too.

And Topuria isn't just talking shit because he knows he'll never fight him. He was talking this same shit from the start, because he wanted it from the start. Islam is the one that made a bunch of hypocritical excuses and then went scampering to WW.

It's nothing like when Khabib was being called out by retired fighters. Islam wasn't retired. He was still in the division. When Topuria came calling islam threw his belt away and went running.

He didn't exactly walk through Yair.

Damn right the line would be long, it would be the whole division since his only LW fight was getting pieced up and dropped by a can. Kind of funny that he thinks he'd be the real champ though because the UFC offered him a fight for a paper belt against a 36 year old who Islam already smoked when he was in his prime. His title shots in both divisions are against Islam's leftovers.
