One of the best explanations I have ever heard is on my faith in
humanity thread....the young man who helped the guy with the
Interesting, complex question. I don't think there's one clear-cut answer for each of those factors but there are many possible things that could be subbed in. Off the top of my head, I think many people ascribe "suffering"/hardships as something that, when handled wisely, can produce "spiritual gold" as it were. I don't have much time to really flesh that idea out right now, but it's what comes to mind off the top of my head for now.
Of course, what does it mean to "handle it wisely"? Experiences of suffering can certainly produce attitudes and behaviours which then just create more suffering for the individual and others.
from a quick google, id have to say it sounds like some truth wrapped up in nice fluffy woo package.
sounds to me like some work on cognitive dissonance, learning scientific skepticism and learning to be more positive in general.
i guess the base metal is negative thoughts, or irrational beliefs? the gold is truth and positivity? like i said, sounds like a woo package.
edit: maybe not cognitive dissonance so much as self awareness and solid self esteem
The base metal in this case is the everyday mind , grounded in the mundane , the commonplace world we find ourselves in day to day.
The transmuted alchemical mind then is the transcendent state wherein you embrace or at least confront the cosmic perspective
There are numerous catalysts. Intoxicating agents for some , meditative exercises for others
Link to thread? or please quote the post your referring, to. Thank you.
Would you consider praying to be a form of mental alchemy?
I'll post the video when I get home later.
The mind is by nature rooted in the world. That is the base metal. The gold is the mind/heart united with the spiritual object of focus.
It's the experimentation and process that is important, not the destination.
Although that can be a fun place to arrive at.
The only constraint the mind has is the cultural boundaries we build around it, the alchemical mind breaks these barriers
The " heart " is one of these barriers
I'll be damned is someone tries to define the transcendent state as merely being united with the " heart " FFS
Base medal could perhaps be your base personality. The individual you become by no conscious effort of yourself. The gold being the individual you transform yourself into, in order to transcend the individual the world shaped you as (childhood development/environmental factors/conditioning/ etc.).
The role the mental aspect plays, is that it's simply the tool you use in order to do so. Taking hold of the process of shaping yourself, so that the sole determinant of who you are is your own thoughts and them alone. No exterior influence.
But I may have totally misunderstood the question lol.
What the hell are you weirdos on about
I guess you are saying "heart" is some kind of unstable and weak emotionalism ? Seems to be selling that word a little short.
Does anyone think that mental alchemy can be used to
Draw things to you?
Praying for something like in the world, not so much. Prayer for presence/unity, now that's cooking.
You are on the right track
We've each answered this question our own way , I've answered it by suggesting the alchemical mind is that which has transcended the commonplace human domain
And the " heart " is very common and very human
Transmutation is certainly not required for us to show more heart , be heartfelt or heartened or be one with the heart etc
What is your view on third eye meditation?
Do you mean holding a magnet in front of the pineal gland for a prolonged period?
Playing with fire bud
Oh no....I mean meditating to get in touch with what is commonly called our
