IGN accused of copying Dead Cells review

Oh yeah, IGN is a cancer and terrible at what they do. I can't believe some people still use them.

That was the rage-fueled backlash to the fact that the feminists seized on the misbehavior of angry #GG lashing out to stigmatize gamers, and perpetrate their agenda by dictating to the wider gaming community the nature and content of its games, and judging them based on what they already consume. That's how Anita Sarkeesian injected herself into the dialogue. I don't care about a lack of "evidence" about timelines. Zoe was sleeping with the people who were covering her games, and even if she hadn't exploited her feminine wiles yet, she was already in contact with Grayson of Kotaku, and in an inappropriate relationship-- possibly already his lover, almost certainly already sexual or flirtatious on some level, and undeniably already friends.

She tried playing, "This would look bad for women in gaming" to keep her boyfriend from exposing her infidelity. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, Nostradumbass.

Anita and the rest of them should have kept their noses out of it, but they white knighted Zoe because they couldn't tolerate the idea a woman, and a journalistic body favorably covering her, face some level of scrutiny on the likelihood of sexual misconduct. The same disingenuous SJW pieces of shit who howled and lurched and performed all other sort of victimization theater in the press didn't mind seeing TotalBiscuit libeled as a white supremacist and rape-enabler on the other side. Fuck them.

What's really infuriating is that the press today declares this misconduct was "debunked" (most of its links are dead). Uh, no, it wasn't. It simply wasn't verified to a criminal level of satisfaction. The circumstantial evidence overwhelmingly favors it. This isn't a courtroom, and people aren't burdened with that standard of proof. Gamers in the real word are going to look at what has been presented, and use their brains. For example, the anti-#GG crowd struts about the fact Nathan didn't write the later reviews of her games. He was staff. Can they prove he didn't have any influence on the perception of this woman to the rest of the staff? Can they prove he didn't favorably refer to her game earlier due to their relationship? This is all quite inappropriate.

This is how the gaming press responded to valid concerns made by gamers (notice our anti-#GG NeoGafer didn't want to link this while "debunking" #GG):
'Gamers' don't have to be your audience. 'Gamers' are over.
"Gamers" above is code for men...but not really. It's actually just a straighforward reference to the most lucrative non-casual gaming base who happen to be mostly men. Yet they wonder why the hardcore gaming community (read: male gamers) reacted with such hostility. They had no concern for the sexism they introduced in kind; from a chaotic, butterfly-effect unfurling that all traces back to a shitty woman who tried to manipulate her boyfriend into not holding to her account for her infidelity with an appeal to the potential impact to their shared SJW agenda for gaming culture. And TotalBiscuit aka John Bain becomes the bad guy in this. Fucking wow.

Truth. Moving on, that NeoGaf "debunk" the Forbes author linked has convenient little apologies like this on behalf of gaming journalism:

That's because the editors were demonstrating an agenda, and #GG was smart enough to pick this out. It wasn't all trolls sending in bomb threats, but there was a coordinated effort between gaming journalists to advance that narrative.

I also love gems like this one:

Convenient time for social liberals to selectively care about free speech that isn't protected by the First Amendment. Yeah, you're real victims of that brand of pro-censorship mob politics.

TastyScarceConch-max-14mb.gif

People like Anita Sarkeesian and Brianna Wu caught shit because they misconstrued #GG as being against female developers when that was never their main complaint, and unarguably not the root cause. Gamers were against being vilified by the gaming press, and having the future content and shape of the industry they prop up with their dollars dictated to them. They simply began to hold liberals to the same ethical standards that liberals themselves espouse. For some reason liberals didn't like this. Seems to me that liberals don't like liberalism.

That Forbes writer, Fruzsina Eordogh, is even trying to use this revisionist bullshit to argue that the firing of Jessica Price is "collateral" of #GG, and makes a point of mentioning "associated mob harassment". This language is a strong invocation of today's MSM branding of Sarkeesian as the "woman who survived the harassment of Gamergate". The implication is that Jessica Price is on some extended level a victim of the harassment of #GG. What a crock of shit.

Stay classy, cunt. Classy and unemployed. Good riddance, and I'm so glad BioWare got that right. You're not a victim, and I'm not gullible enough to fall for your SJW Forbes white knight who only pretends to approach this history fairly and objectively:

Bain was my guiding light in all of this because he was highlighting genuine issues, but he's made the villain, and yoked to all the terrorist incels who destroyed the virtuous heart of the protest he voiced due to "white male privilege".

So maybe that makes it easier to understand why a white, male, non-casual gamer like myself reviles these despicable "activists", and sees them exactly for the racist, sexist bigots they are. Keep your The Last Jedi politics off my games, thanks. You don't have to destroy Rome in a day as much as you desire to try.

All of a sudden I miss sodapopinski and that stupid av of his with the drumming white rabbit or whatever.

I like IGN for the most part and I listen to most of their podcasts but I absolutely cannot fucking stand Filip Miucin. He comes off like a phony ass Nintendo fanboy cunt, I hope he gets fired for this.

Well you’re in luck then because he did get fired over this.

lmao, ign...

That being said, Call of duty is the greatest shooter ever made.

madden always gets high scores made me turn my back on the review system

I got off IGN's wagon when they gave uncharted 3 a 10. Uncharted 2 was at best a 9.

After playing games for 35 years I've come to get a sense for myself of what I'd like anyway. Dunkey's reviews mean more to me than IGN or Gamespot lol

Absolutely all of this.

I will say it’s unfortunate that the discussion was hijacked so quickly by gender politics and then subsequently hijacked by - as you put - the rage induced reaction to it. When the whole discussion drifted into that territory I had to check out (for sanity and career safety - I wasn’t about to find myself in the middle of that shit with my personal information released on Twitter and ending up getting Tim Allen’d).

As a game developer, a large amount of the discussion was irrelevant to me, with the exception of journalistic and professional ethics. The players involved would never dictate what I do directly. Granted, it could influence that indirectly but Quinn and Sarkessian had no influence in the greater gaming industry. I never felt that risk at all. They can have their shitty ideas if they want (and I believe the market has shown their ideas are bad).

I was more concerned with the playing field being level - especially for indies. It’s hard enough overcoming the type of spend AAA studios can put out. It’s bullshit to also have to compete with other small studios to curry special favor with the press.

And just to be clear, Quinn and Nathan, likely all of Kotaku, have no ethics. I feel like that should be the stamp on this post. Last Jedi sucked too. Okay that’s it.

irrelevant tangent but I met Nathan for the first and only time just a few days before this news broke. I had no impression of him. I didn’t even know he worked at Kotaku, we were just at a party. Imagine my face Monday morning when I see his name in the news and then double checked the names on the Facebook invite.

I miss Soda, too. I wish he wouldn't have lost it. He got lazy and started spamming problematic tweet propaganda in the WR. When we confronted him after repeated abuse, his persecution complex exploded, and he decided to go out on his shield...over nothing. All we wanted him to do was to stop posting verifiably false tweets in the middle of these unfolding tragedies or other news events. Just slow down a tiny bit with that stuff. He was a tremendous resource, and a real Twitter pro.

I think all the pro-#GG bullshit propaganda had taken a toll on him (specifically the stuff about faked threats, faked donations, faked whatever-- all of the stuff that turned out to be true). His end here was emblematic of the fall of #GG itself. He bought into the bullshit, and he couldn't sort out what was real from what was not. He assumed that Sherdog staff were part of this grander conspiracy of censorship, or something, when he should have been focused on not sharing Tweets that presented themselves as factual when they objectively were lies. Don't go full Alex Jones, man. You don't get to circumvent and violate YouTube policies, then pretend that you are a victim of YouTube.

It seems impossible to satisfy the hysterical, entrenched believers on either side. Like Bain, I can't stand either side. I find Alex Jones a ridiculous imbecile who is part of the problem, but I also don't trust these coordinated efforts of the powers-that-be who mostly reside in Silicon Valley and journalist boardrooms to destroy him more as a symbol than a man.

I see what Alex is doing. I see what CNN is doing. I hold them both in contempt.

Why did they post their response as an image instead of text? I can see why for twitter, but on the website itself it's also an image.
What are you trying to sniff out, here, man? The image is a wall-of-text. It's impossible to divine what meaning could be gleaned from splitting these hairs.

They did the right thing. They responded correctly.

Well, even that review was quite reasonable, given the hype and the game being more of the same stuff that earned it's initial accolades. The only thing you could really knock that game for is it's story, which is totally subjective.

It's their weird scoring system that raises an eyebrow or two for me. Like they have a set score in mind no matter what, and have to justify it through some arbitrary complaint/praise. It's like they have the score given to them before they play the game, and then work from there. As if they're critiquing the score of the game, and not actually the game itself. Sometimes(a LOT of the time actually), the editorial doesn't even jive with the final score.

I almost want to give this guy a bit of a pass for his laziness, because it almost seems like he knew his opinion didn't really matter, so he just C&P'd it from some random channel and called it a day, thinking his employers wouldn't give a shit. And they probably wouldn't have, if not for the original guy making a video about it.

Lmao a female game developer at one point fucked a dude at Kotaku who didn't even review her game and that was enough cause to start a campaign of harrassment. That's the reality of what happened and it's absolutely pathetic that you still think it was justified. Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, Brianna Wu, none of these people are even journalists. Worst excuse for a movement ever.

He positively covered her game, the harassment was two ways, those non-journalists are public figures who injected themselves into the issue, so they're not victims, and generally speaking, none of this addresses what I wrote.

Find an argument.

Way to completely ignore every point made.

At least if IGN are stealing reviews there's some chance of it being written based on someone's actual opinions rather than just paid for.
