Or 185lbs if that makes more sense for NFL. Where do you think he would be at compared to CM Punk? Most people consider the WWE person to be a joke and expect him to get embarrassed. How much of this is down to people not viewing him as an A level athlete or people believing that it's too difficult to get to the level of pros in that short time without any experience. In HW or FLW it could maybe be done because they're so shallow but for LW or WW it's stacked and skill levels are much higher in general. So let's say you take a guy with no combat experience, no wrestling but is in the NFL and a WW/MW, do you see him having much more success than CM Punk? His skill level would be more or less the same but he would be a better athlete.

The only players close to 170lbs on an nfl team would be the kickers

Most wide receivers would be welterweights if they needed the cardio for MMA. But ok I'll say they could be 185 too.

The thing about CM Punk is that he's not really that Athletic of a guy. As a pro wrestler his ring skills weren't bad, but he was still a little awkward. Even if you took a smaller WWE guy like Dolph Ziggler or A.J. Styles I think they would get a lot less flack, because they show a lot of athletic ability in their performances. If you took someone like Wes Welker (a 185 pound NFL star) and put him through CM Punks boot camp he would catch on faster than Punk.

170lbs fighters weigh 180-190lbs and which isn't that uncommon for smaller NFL players.

The question is what do you think? Would your perception of this athlete with no prior training coming to the UFC be?

    Dumb response

NFL players are a joke, extremely limited athletes with no cardio in an extremely non-technical sport which is only popular in one country.

It's a totally different sport to fighting. They don't have what it takes to compete in MMA.

Wasnt CM Punk just a good talker? I watched wrasslin in the 90s and some of those guys were tough as fuck. I still think Chris Benoit would be a bad ass mma fighter before he went bonkers.

Athleticism doesn't mean its gonna transfer over to fighting, you can be athletic as hell and fold like a lawn chair with a shot to the jaw.

Matt Mitrione...not the greatest MMA record, but he made the transition from the NFL to MMA. CM Punk was a wrestling fan growing up that never competed in athletics at any level. He practiced for many years to become a decent pro wrestler who did an excellent interview, therefore he got a push because he could draw money. There are excellent athletes in pro wrestling that decided to go that route rather than MMA...Ziggler is a good example. Give Punk credit for trying, but I would think it takes more than a few years of training to make it in MMA, especially for someone who is not an athlete.
