My grandfather, after fighting Nazis moved to blighty, settled in Wales and built a home and family, a real patriarch he had a full house on a Sunday. Strong as an ox.
He died from lung damage due to coal mining. He got up in the night, left my grandmother sleeping in bed, went and sat in his chair by the stove and passed away there.
I can't imagine his final moments, but I think he didn't want disturb his wife's sleep. An honourable death in my mind after a life fully lived.
Shit, after almost 20 years thinking of that brought a tear to my eye. That's how I want to go. Loved and missed.
