Simple question

If a guy outside the UFC can beat guys in the UFC (in their weight class), should they have the option of being in the UFC?

How does one beat a guy in the UFC without being in the UFC?

You can either hypothesize or you can use harder evidence.
For example, do you think Jake Shields or Jon Fitch could beat Erick Silva?
Do you think they could beat Ben Saunders?
(Fitch beat both of them)
And go from there.

How do you ground that which is ungroundable?

Er, no.

There is no UFC level. The skill level in the UFC ranges from high to distressingly low.

Shields maybe. Fish no chance. But Shields already got cut so nah.

I'm sure there are some fighters out there without a pro fight that are still training but have enough skill to beat a current UFC fighter. They're human after all. Jon Jones probably could have beat some light heavyweights from the UFC when he had his pro debut in 2008. Whether they should be able to get into the UFC right away? Who knows. Maybe first they would need at least a few fights under their belt before they get the call. It's a business after all. Even Brock Lesnar fought for the K-1 company for his first fight.

Do you mean someone outside the UFC that has wins over current UFC fighters like say Sergei Kharitonov? If so, then yes.

You definitely could be. But if you can sell more tickets, you will be.

Wow, I didn't expect this kind of a dud of a thread from tenniswhiz. Comparing fighters to UFC fighters saying things "I think Minakov could beat Potts, so he should be in the UFC" doesn't make sense. We can't know who will beat who until they fight.

I'd say anyone outside the ufc that has potential to be ranked top #15-20 in their ufc weight division should be given a chance. There are many ufc fighters 0-2 that would be beaten by top fighters in different promotions and the ufc roster does not need to expand.

Thanks.

But I wasn't talking about prospects.
I was talking about vets like Askren, Fitch, Shields, and Okami.

Right. So this is a "bring Askren to the UFC" and "bring Fitch, Shields and Okami back to the UFC" thread?

I did a bit of professional wrestling in my heyday so I already meet the criteria for fighting in the UFC.
