He could've gotten an interim title fight against Henry Cejudo.
This is a fight that people would love to see. I remember several threads on Sherdog mentioning this matchup back when Yan held the belt. It's an interesting clash of styles.

Even though O'Malley has been calling out Cejudo, there's nothing official about both of them fighting. It's not even a good matchup stylistically for O'Malley either.

What do you think will happen?
Will Cejudo just wait for Sterling to recover?
Will Yan sit and do nothing?

I believe Yan just got back to the gym a day or two ago after a family vacation. He was also very upset with the UFC last I heard and contemplated leaving. He felt the disqualification was Aljimain acting for a win, he felt he won rounds 1,3,5 vs Aljo in the rematch and he felt he beat O'Malley. I'm not sure Yan is eager to hop in to fight Cejudo on short notice right now, which is sad it was one of my dream fights and I think an on point Yan can outclass Cejudo in a beautiful, technical 5 round affair.

Just Cejudo or Cejudo + 3 judges? Yan better start finishing those fights, the decision game is not going well for him lately. But I agree, unlikely that he accepts on short notice as another potential loss would be disastrous.

Stony path for Yan. Cejudo is no joke, and if Yan loses an interim title fight, after losing a fight beforehand, he will have a long way back to a title shot.
It would be an incredible fight though, and Yan might be good enough to beat him.
But as much as I insist that Yan should've won 30-27 against O'Malley, I also believe that giving title shots to guys coming off a loss is not a good idea, as undeserved as that loss may be.

No he couldn't have. You got Chito, O'Malley (who just beat Yan) and less so Cory, but you want to give Yan another title shot? He's coming off 2 losses and just lost to Aljo less than a year ago? Why should he get another interim title shot?

It's a no from me, dawg.

He should spend some time and figure out why he keeps losing these close decisions, and make an adjustment.

Say what you want about how it happened but Yan is 0-3 in his last three fights and you want to give him an interim title shot in one of the most competitive divisions in the sport?

Would be a great fight but your crazy if you think that's going to happen. Maybe if Yan was a superstar

Funny tidbit: Yan was born in the middle of Siberia
Random tidbit…….
I just saw Paddy eating at a buffet on YouTube video. That lad is a slob, chewing with his mouth open, talking while eating, really unlikable scouser lad.

i'm sure everyone in Yan's team would gladly take Cejudo but given his last two performances i think he's not in a position to call someone out. at this point he should just take whoever UFC offers.

It would be a good fight but UFC will go with O'Malley if they don't postpone it. Most likely it will be O'Malley and Cejudo for interim. The way the judges scored the fight with Yan vs O'Malley tells you everything you need to know.
