If Weidman beats Machida, will haters shut up?

What haters? Chris is established. If he beats Machida, I think it then becomes Ok for his fans to talk about his P4P status with the elites.

People will say Machida is washed up and that The Weidman still need to prove himself.

If he breaks Machida's leg by checking his head kick with his elbow I'll give him all the credit in the world.

Just kidding, hes already established as a good fighter. I don't know how anyone could really deny that at this point. The Silva fights did leave a bad taste in my mouth, but hes legit.

It doesn't matter. One of two scenerios will happen.

If he beats Machida and cleans out the rest of the division, it will be all good. But once he loses once, the "He was never that good anyway" line will happen.

If he loses to Machida, it will be "UFC 175 proved that Weidman is overrated and the wins over Silva were lucky".

Hater's are gonna hate regardless if there's anything to hate on. That's how people are.

I'm not a hater, I just view Weidman in the proper context: a fighter with a promising future, but FAR from elite status. The guy has 11 pro fights. IF he beats Machida (and I for one and betting, literally and figuratively, that he won't), he will have taken a big step. But IMHO, Machida beats him relatively easily, as will/would Jacare. And Rockhold, Vitor, and Kennedy would all be even money against Weidman.

Weidman is solid all-around, but is noticeably slower than guys like Machida and especially Jacare. Machida will frustrate Weidman, who is aggressive by nature, until Weidman gets sloppy shooting for the TD and Machida Bader's him.

I was a hater (kind of), but he's growing on me. He's a very good fighter but a win over Machida and I can't deny him as being one of the best.

Haters never shut up...it's part of being a hater. If they had the ability to think rationally and objectively analyze their opinions on things possibly rethinking them under changing circumstances...well they wouldn't be a hater if they could do that.

I really haven't heard much Weidman hate. What are people saying about him?

LMAO

For a guy that's slow he sure is hard to hit. Jacare is not that fast and fights at a very slow pace.

His haters are gonna hate him all the more if he beats Machida. It's not about legitimacy to those fans, it's about wanting to see him fail so they can discount his wins. Doesn't matter who he beats.

If he beats Machida, who looks great at 185, he's clearly one of the best. If he follows that up with wins over Jacare, Belfort, or Mousasi, he's nearing P4P status.

I think Weidman is a very good fighter and a win over Machida would go a long way towards dulling the asterisks I have on the Silva fights. I know it isn't a popular stance, but I'd love to see a clear win over a great fighter like Machida to cement Weidman's place in the elite.

I like Chris and Machida as well. Chris does need SOME improvements in his game like better cardio but he has a full tool box and knows how to use it. Chris by TKO or decision in the 4th.

These are the same reasons people said he would lose to Silva.

Weidman is a very good fighter and it is unfortunate that people will try to discredit him if he gets a loss. It reminds me when Fedor lost to Werdum people tried to use that to discredit his entire career.

Proper context ? Promising future? That's your perspective and your context but make no mistake...it's far from 'proper'. Chris Weidman outwrestled Phil Davis and Ryan Bader in college and fights at a lower weight class. When your defenses are excellent (his sub defense, wrestling defense, striking dedense) you don't necessarily need be concerned with Machidas speed. Anderson Silva couldn't touch him on the feet (bar leg kicks in fight# 1 but we all know Weidman corrected that issue quickly!). Just like Kennedy manhandled roger Gracie...so Weidman can do
To guys like Jacare and Rockhold. Are they going to out strike him? Maybe, but keep in mind Silva sure couldn't!!!! Cardio is the only area that Weidman seems to have weakness and Machida is the likeliest to take advantage of that...but for the love of God get some perspective. Weidman is the 185 lbs champ and is undefeated. Until someone proves otherwise he's the man. He could be P4P best if he beats Machida. The best part is his striking, conditioning, and overall game is improving each fight. Chris is a smart fighter and we can go back to this in a year or 2 if you'd like.

There's always something to criticize. You can't stop it when it comes eventually. Even if Weidman fought like TJ he will still have haters.
