It would be great for the fans we can all agree. But what about the business? Is it really in their long-term interest to let some goofball leverage the belt into a freakshow badminton match, while the fighters and fight-fans sit on their thumbs wondering what's happening to the sport?
I'm afraid the best we can hope for, is the belt to be stripped soon after what's left of him is released from the hospital.
Lets also hope that Bellator continues to improve. Without any serious competition, the UFC will never have any motivation to improve their product. Imagine if half of the worlds best LWs were in Bellator, you can bet the UFC wouldn't be nearly so flippant with their own LW belt. In fact, they'd go to great lengths to demonstrate that theirs is as legitimate as possible (starting with defending it on a regular basis).
