It would be great for the fans we can all agree. But what about the business? Is it really in their long-term interest to let some goofball leverage the belt into a freakshow badminton match, while the fighters and fight-fans sit on their thumbs wondering what's happening to the sport?

I'm afraid the best we can hope for, is the belt to be stripped soon after what's left of him is released from the hospital.

Lets also hope that Bellator continues to improve. Without any serious competition, the UFC will never have any motivation to improve their product. Imagine if half of the worlds best LWs were in Bellator, you can bet the UFC wouldn't be nearly so flippant with their own LW belt. In fact, they'd go to great lengths to demonstrate that theirs is as legitimate as possible (starting with defending it on a regular basis).

OMG no LW belt has been defended for 6 months, whatever shall we do

Meanwhile your top LW contender is more flaky than my damn cereal. And guess what, I'm having Corn Flakes asshole

He wouldn't be flaking if he had a champion to face, you know that right? Enjoy them corn flakes.

Imagine a day when the UFC gets its first simultaneous multiple weight champion and that champion goes on to fight the greatest boxer of his generation who also happens to be around the same weight. It would have been unimaginable at one time. Now it's here, yet all people can do is whine that they'll have to wait another three months to watch some guy from TUF get a title shot.

I like how his fans defend it because he is all they got so this guy has to say omg he has not defended it in 6 months what shall we do?
Well given his track record since he never defended the 145 belt you can only assume he is using this one as a conversation piece as well.
When you defend ignorance you look ignorant yourself. People except people from Ireland are so sick of Conor he is finished just watch especially when Floyd whoops him he is done
He will be rich but done

It's pretty ridiculous that we're STILL talking about Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov as potential contenders. Can we get passed that already? Start focusing on some new guys like Edson Barboza?

What fight has Conor ever taken that wasn't more reward then risk? None. Every fight was more reward, lower risk or a fall back. He loses at 155? No big deal. Goes back to 145 and the nut guzzlers say he only lost to a guy 3 times his size.

Conor is the ultimate fraud. Only way he returns is a super fight that offers huge reward and a built in excuse for a loss. Like a gsp or Woodley fight. Huge reward and built in excuse for a loss.

He was pretty much guaranteed a title shot, but fought Dennis Siver regardless. He would have lost his title shot if he had lost that fight.

After that, he was 100% guaranteed his title shot. Aldo pulled out so he had to fight a very dangerous Mendes at short notice. Could have turned it down, but didn't. Probably would have lost his title shot had he lost that fight.

He was 100% guaranteed a title shot at lightweight. Dos Anjos pulled out. He could have walked away and waited for Dos Anjos to heal up but he didn't, he took the fight against Diaz at a heavier weight because Diaz couldn't make weight. And he lost that fight, and a lot of his momentum.

He has taken a lot of risky fights, fights that a lot of other fighters have turned down.

Do fight fans really want to watch Conor get slaughtered against a pro boxer instead of a potentially great fight against Ferguson? Do you guys really care about how many millions Conor can make? Do you expect him to fight in the UFC again this year? As for my answers, no, no, and no.

Lots of people hating on Conor for taking the Mayweather fight. This is PRIZE FIGHTING, and the main goal of any prizefighter should be to make as much money as possible in the short window that you have to compete. You need to look after your own interests, because you sure as fuck can't rely on the UFC or the fans to look after your best interest. Are the UFC and MMA fans going to be helping you financially after retirement? Not likely, even Dana's boys like Hughes and Liddell found that out eventually.

Conor has a once in a lifetime opportunity to make insane money that will set him and his family up for life, but yeah what a fraud he is for choosing that over fighting Tony Ferguson for 1/100th of the money.

lol, what do you think is going to do more PPV buys? Floyd/Conor or Ferguson/Conor? Come on dude.

Fans should want to see great fights. Most UFC headliners are 5 rounds. We almost got a chance to see Ferguson vs Khabib and there's still a chance that we will sometime down the road. There are other talented guys in the division (Alvarez, Barboza, Michael Johnson, Poirier, etc) Why let Conor McGregor take years off your life? Get the fuck over it already.

Most people who hate him so badly don't consider him to be the best at LW, so what is he getting in the way of really? If Ferguson had a belt over his shoulder, all your worries would disappear? I really don't get it. Robert Whittaker vs Yoel Romero is a great fight. Bisping parading around with the strap takes absolutely nothing away from that. Same scenario plays out at LW. Life will go on, with or without your approval.

A 38 year old and a mini dude with no camp...fucking lol at the risk. He hadn't even earned a title shot by then, was merely talking his way into it.

Cabo Diaz with zero camp was hand picked over several others like Cerronne who were in camps

Fucking lol at your delusion

So we've moved on from Khabib and the next hope is now the TUF loser?

News flash, Tony has been sitting out longer than Conor. Oh, Khabib pulled out so it's not his fault? Kind of like how Aldo, RDA, etc pulled out on Conor but hey I guess double standards don't matter if it helps prove your point.

Yeah nice backtracking and applying retrospective qualifications to your weak argument after it was disproven.

Yeah I forgot, my main objective as a fight fan is how man ppv's the UFC can sell. Of course I want them to do well, but most importantly, I want to see the best fighters fight and the most entertaining fights possible. Conor vs Mayweather is neither. But like I said, if you guys get your rocks off over what fighter can make the most money and the biggest spectacle, then more power to you. The only good thing about this fight is that it gets mma more notoriety, even after Conor's beating he will receive.

Good job at saying nothing since my facts destroy your delusion. Conor is a gatekeeper talent at best when he isn't fighting hand picked and or no camp opponents

Conor hasn't been sitting out at all, he's been pursing interests outside of the the UFC, he is healthy while being clearly able and willing to fight and has challenges yet he refuses to defend his belt. That's a little different but you are retarded, I get it bro I feel bad for you're issues.

I'm not against what Conor is doing, I'd do it, however to say he has no challengers at LW waiting for their shot is utterly stupid - you have two guys there on multiple fight winning streaks and they both present plenty of challenges to him.

But you stated that fight fans would rather see Conor/Ferguson, but obviously the number of PPV buys and eyes on the Conor/Floyd fight are going to be exponentially greater, so I'm just confused as to why you think more fight fans want to see Conor/Ferguson.
