If the UFC doesn’t nail 317, are you disappointed with the 1st half of 2025?

Not really. I don't expect much from the UFC these days and if it weren't for the Sherdog PBP threads I'd likely watch only a couple events a year.

Merab Umar was good and I quite liked Sean getting embarrassed by ddp. I think the Jon bullshit has really messed up this year. The champ in the main division however bad it may be just not fighting ever isn't ok. Also topuria leaving isn't great either so will see what happens with those two

Don't blame the fans for this. The UFC created an organization that values immediate rematches instead of dethroned champs having to fight their way back, like GSP did. And the UFC most definitely created the situation in the HW division with their bullshit.

The UFC never once made these decisions with an eye on what was best for the sport and you're blaming the fighter's for the status quo that the UFC created.

And, considering bullshit that happened with Aljo and O'Malley, it's pretty ridiculous to say the fighters have too much power. Jon Jones has too much power.
I'm blaming fighters and UFC/WME.

WME Corporate is clearly pushing min-maxing, putting out the least costly product because their money really comes from ESPN and pushing out cards no matter quality.

UFC used to strong arm guys back in the day and if they didn't go with the flow, they got put in the back. Guys like Tito were thrown Machida when they didn't play ball. It was rarer for guys to sit around for a year with 1 win and get chosen for a title shot over guys who won 3+ in a row with 1st round finishes.

Fighters aren't innocent babies, UFC/WME are greedy but so are fighters. Negotiations are where they are supposed to meet in the middle of both their greediness. I mean you're Leon and UFC is throwing Colby your way or you can call out Belal, Khamzat, JDM, Shavkat, it's on the fighters to care about their legacy. It's on Jones to take Aspinall even though Stipe was an easier payday. The real best fighters that are talked about wanted the challenges of the top guys and put their names on their resume, besides what's best for their bank account.

So far its like a B year. They had the right fights booked and some bad luck. Arman falling off, Shavkat being injured took two title fights away but Umar and Ank getting shots were the right move.

314 is a great card though I agree the buzz for main event isnt there but if Topuria is gone thats what it is so lets see who the best FW in the world is out of Lopes/Volk, Pitbull, Evloev etc.

312 was the only real shitty card imo so overall I still give it a B but if they nail June/July PPV with Islam/Topuria and DDP/Khamzat that ups it alot.

The biggest drawback to the UFC is it's too expensive and complicated to watch. ESPN's app sucks, so does its website. If it partnered with Youtube and used an NFL sunday ticket item it'd be much easier.

If I were into UFC's marketing and cost notwithstanding, I'd want to partner with something like YT or Netflix, Amazon, etc., and charge a yearly fee where UFC fight pass is included ($90 value) and charge let's say $499 yearly with, let's say, 6 PPV tokens you could redeem any time you want that expire 12.31.xx. Maybe package it where if you pay up front you get 10 PPV tokens. Throw in a free hat or some shit.

But $80 a PPV + ESPN+ monthly + $90 UFC fight pass yearly...just too damn much.

And there should be a lifetime UFC fight pass membership that just adds $12 a year for adding the new year of fights. Not $95 a year every fucking year

To be fair they still strong arm people every blue moon. I mean look at Aljamain Sterling. Wasn't there rumors of him being forced into the O'Malley fight when he wasn't ready? To your point though fighters do sit out for too long. Valentina Shevchenko is a decent example. She fought in September and it takes all the way until May to get another title fight going when Manon has been the #1 contender for over a year now?

I haven’t had this little excitement for it in a long time. The events have all been boring as fuck this year.

I don't see how you can call fighters "greedy" when they collect such a small portion of the profits, bonuses are worth less than ever before, and Dana White himself has defended their low pay by saying the UFC isn't supposed to be a career. That's ridiculous.

The UFC can still strong-arm fighters, as illustrated perfectly by Aljo/O'Malley. What I'm saying is you're blaming the fighters for immediate rematches when immediate rematches are what the UFC introduced as the status quo and have made no effort to change.

I don't even think a long these terms. These guys better deliver this card is always my attitude. Sometimes fights are great, sometimes they are bad, and sometimes in-between. What it looks like on paper and whatever "hype" doesn't always translate. I just want to enjoy the violence.
