What would happen to McGregor's (short) legacy?

If McGregor wins his record is "clean", but if he loses? Is this the biggest "do ir die" fight of McGregor? Might even be bigger than the first Aldo fight.

It's being made also because it's not 'do or die' for him. Won't lose his belt, will have the exact same excuses as the first fight and is still going to be one KO away from having his hype train returning, although maybe in half speed.

Imagine if Aldo dusts him in his next fight. That would be extremely fucked for him.

I don't think his record is clean even if he wins. Nate exposed some things against McGregor that will be carried forward by other fighters whether he wins or loses the rematch.

Nothing that hasn't happened already

His aura of invincibility is gone, and with it many of the casuals who just love the idea of unbeatable fighters.

To the rest of us who are fans of his fighting style and the breath of fresh air he brought to an otherwise stagnant sport (2014 was abhorrently dull) he'll always be a good fighter to support and tune in to watch.

If he loses then he just goes back to FW and defends his title as a regular champion.

A lot of people are going to be cheering for Edgar to kick his fucking ass after these bullshit shennanigans.

Excuse my hyperbole, but it was. There were good fights but on the whole I found myself just less interested in MMA all together.

fair enough.

Had nothing to do with your own life?

I had less interest in this past NFL season but it wasn't for lack of compelling games it had to do with other things weighing on my mind.

Feel me?

People emphasize loses too much in MMA, when your fighting the best you will have loses. His legacy isn't ruined he did everything he said he was going to do until now. It would have been nicer if he defended his belt though.

Absolutely, sometimes you just need a compelling fighter/team/story to just bring you back into something you love.

And there were far more boring years of MMA where I was twice as interested as I was in 2014. So it's all relative of course.

And yes, admittedly there were a lot of other things in my life back then that seemed to have taken presence.

But 2012 was when I first watched some YouTube videos of Conor and was like "Alright, I'm interested in this kid. Hopefully he goes to the UFC one day". And well, here we are lol.

He would still be the FW champ. But he would lose much of his mystique and hype. This of course could be repaired to a fair extent, if he goes on to dominate the FW division for years to come. But if he doesn't, and if he loses to either Edgar or Aldo, then his mystique would be erased a fair bit.

Having said that, the thing that could not be erased is what he has done for MMA in terms to bringing the spot light and just as important, the spot light on fighter's pay. He has shown the way.

I wouldn't say this is do or die so to speak because he'll still have the title. Though it is super risky. The aura and mystique has already been reduced but his and Dana's excuses got the casuals to stay on board and put it down to not being used to "the bigger man". If he loses again at 170 or 155 i have no doubt more excuses will be made but the nut hugging casuals will maybe be able to see through the hype and bullshit

I'm glad he got a little humbled but lets not forget he went up two weight classes. The guy has balls and should be acknowledged for that.

Yes, yes, and yes... I've said this before this is a copy-cat sport it's hard to put tour finger in the holes once the leaks start. FW defense at this time with two hungry dogs waiting is not to pleasing. Dana needz to protect Conor's belt for the real money fight before it's "Who's Next"...?

A few pieces of humble pie for Mcgregor and that's it.

Nate gets street cred he oh so desperately needed. And gets paid. Nick gets jealous and shoots Nate with a sawed off shotgun.

This whole fan mentality of "losing means your legacy is gone" is why we cant have nice things and champs generally dont go up to fight other champs. I could never blame GSP for not going up and fighting AS in his prime, because we all know that if he lost that fight his accomplishments at WW would be discredited by everybody because he couldnt cut it against the MW goat.
