Li gruesomely stuck his fingers into his opponent’s eyes to escape from a guillotine. CLEARLY It worked, and he faced no repercussions. It also created a cut.

Could the decision been reversed or no contest?

I understand he had gotten a warning. However the ref may not have seen how serious and blatant it was?

Why would it be reversed if Matthews won? (Sorry i clearly don’t understand)

Damn man, that looks so dangerous. They should have at least fined him after the fight. That shit can end someone’s career and jeopardize their sight.

Li losing that fight 30-26 was a big repercussion, IMO. 2/3 judges didn't give him the round with the gouge in which he did his best.

In general. Not necessarily that fight. I know Matthews won.

Happily it went his way but if it didnt then it would have sucked.

Yuki Nakai was permanently blinded in his right eye by Gerard Gordeau due to illegal eye gouging like that.

All I know about this particular incident is that it sends a hell of a bad precedent when a guy blatantly going full eye gouge mode gets a 50k bonus for his efforts. No public acknowledgement of the glaring rulebreaking from the company he represents, no punishment, no nothing.

Tell you what though, Jake Matthews is one tough Aussie. Dude didn't even care when he was asked about it in the post-fight interview. He fully embodies the "It is what it is" philosophy of Max Holloway.

He didn't seem to care in the heat of the moment. He's game as fuck.
