Then I don't see why Jones can't get in there with smaller guys? That's why he will never be in a goat discussion in my book! Randy was around 220 and Brock was way over 265 came fight night, mind you both wrestlers! So, Jones has no excuse not fight at HW What do you guys think?

You should tell Jones that. Use twitter

Randy was unusually fearless.

Guys like him and BJ will always be criticized by fight finder newb historians whom have no clue what kind of fighting spirit they possessed.

By the time Randy fought Brock, it was only a cherry on top if he beat him, and who cares if he lost. JBJ has a lot more to ride on with his legacy, and $$$ earning potential. Any loss can affect both drastically, and besides, the talent in the ufc right now is higher than when Randy fought. He's facing legit killers in his division, and you'd have to be a true hater to hold that against him to not just go in with a HW.

Let him do his thing, fight DC again, and depending on if he wins, he still has a killer in Rumble to deal with. After that, then you have a case for JBJ moving up.

What about when he fought Tim, Gonzaga, Barnett?

HW is the most dangerous division there is, simple as that. Jones doesn't starve and dehydrate because he wants an extra challenge, or visible abs.

Yeah, he was still in a win/win. Those guys were naturally bigger, and if he won, nice, if he lost, eh, they're giants.

You dont remember how much love he got for beating Timmy? No one thought he could whoop him like that.

Also, those were the days when there wasn't big money, and every single fight being the end of the world for fighters. Its a new era.

I can sure as hell remember. I couldn't stand Sylvia and when Couture put him on his ass in the first round I went apeshit.

There is no height requirements for any division, there's only a weight requirement. He makes weight all the time and that's that.

As for your Couture reference, Couture had no choice. He lost twice to Liddell and had to move up.

It baffles me that people complain about Jon being 6'4 at LHW but when Ben Saunders fought at 170lbs, no one bats an eye. Go after Rockhold who is 6'3 at MW, Condit for being 6'2 at WW and Nate for being 6'0 at LW if that's the logic you hold. Any fighter can fight in any division as long as they make weight. And as for legacy, Jon has surpassed Randy in that department and this is coming from a "Jon Jones hater".

Read the first sentence, or two.

Another moving up thread.

There is nothing I despise more than the " A real GOAT would move up " bullshit.

GTFO.

They are different kinds of Legends. Jones is an undefeated young champion. If he continues to win he will be the p4p greatest of all time. Randy was a warrior who was loved for his toughness and ability to achieve the impossible. Losing to giants was just part of that legacy but for Jones any loss impacts his legacy.

It's certainly the most volatile, as evidenced by the fact that nobody in the history of the UFC has successfully defended the heavyweight title more than twice.

Barnett and Rico are the reason he went to 205.

He retired after the 2nd Chuck fight and ca,e out of retirement to fight Tim so he had nothing to lose. At that point he had the belt so he had to fight Gonzaga or retire again.

come on, GSP would have fought in the HW division too...

Vitor another guy that fought anywhere, anytime
