If Ortega doesn't defend midsection well, he won't survive to the third round

We all know Ortega can absorb some heavy shots. He got oustruck in pretty much every fight he won except Edgar's.

Him catching Holloway out of nowhere with some quick TD or sub is real. Holloway's TDD and defensive BJJ is not 100%, he had openings and utilize enough of kicking game for that, plus he doesn't mind to close the distance.

However, Holloway has very underrated weapon he used against Aldo: working on body with punches, knees and middle kicks to beat the gas tank out of his opponent.
Ortega often relies on his durability to survive to later rounds and be a fresher fighter/Hail Mary chance increasing. With Holloway game, he won't be as active in the 3rd as he was against other opponents.

So, how is Ortega's defense against body strikes?

Agree, and this is true for anyone fighting against Max.

Ortega keeps a lose arm around his midsection and likes to roll with punches ala Mayweather, and other times just eats punches to the head for dinner.

His durability is one of the best attributes and I dont think Max will finish Ortega that early,if he does itll be really late or win a decision.

Probably the same as his defense against head strikes.

Which is...not good enough. But his chin/skull can definitely take a few...body is, unfortunately, doesn't work this way...

He definitely is durable against head strikes. Body is a different story though, thus I'm asking.

Didnt Thiago smash his body? I remember Moicano also working his body in some rounds.

And they got destroyed.

I saw Carneiro fight, and I actually remember it vise versa.

I didn't see Tavares fight, but it's not good news. Thiago is dwarfed by Holloway. What he probably had to do from close range, Holloway will do from distance of the octagon. And it's Holloway's bread and butter.

You might be right. You can have a great chin, but the body is different, and Holloway is very good at going to the body. I would say gassing is the biggest worry, as getting hurt to the body in general is. Holloway has hurt nearly everyone in his streak to the body and others prior as well.

We've also seen Holloway in trouble on the ground before. I'm certain he has increased leaps and bounds but is it enough to hold off Ortega?

As I mentioned - not 100%.
Ortega is really good at snatching Hail Mary takedowns and subs. Holloway is not THAT good in defending them. Good, but not enough.

That's why Holloway's easiest key to win will be distance, lateral/backwards movement and working the body of Ortega him, making him slower in later rounds, where he usually shines.

Certainly won't be easy as Brian will be coming for him and after KO'ing Frankie he'll be brimming with confidence. It'll be a good one that's for sure. I'm almost expecting a chess style fight.

he most definitely is not going to out cardio max...I don't think anyone can do that...max has one of the best gas tanks i have ever seen...the guy literally never gets tired...

If he has striking confidence from KOing Edgar, that would be huge mistake against Holloway.

Holloway is totally different type of striker, and, unlike Edgar, will not have huge height and reach disadvantage

Max by experience.

He hacked Aldo's defence,
surely enough he will hack Ortega's.

Relying on head's durability against FW best striker and dominant champ is not enough.

Makes sense. Your mom didn't defend her midsection and then bam, you were born

I can't wait for that fight. Two young studs who have destroyed everyone they fought, facing each other. It's JDS vs Cain 1 level of excitement.

This fight is gonna be epic and I'm sure they're gonna face each other more than once.

He's the epitome of a fighter who weathers the storm and takes over as the other fighter drops off. What makes it interesting is Max is also.

Not saying he's expecting Holloway to have the same style as Frankie but feeling confident in his own power.
