It's a damn shame that Carwin pulled out and that fight never happened, I was really looking forward to it. What do you think would have happened had it gone down? I think it would have been basically even odds, both heavy ko punchers, Carwin obviously physically stronger but the huge punching Roy with his own one punch ko power and his iron chin.

Carwin via cartoon level power

It would have been a slug fest for sure.

Each had a punchers chance.

I give the edge to Carwin cause his punches are EXTREME.

As the commentators probably exaggerate "I can feel it at my desk!!"

I firmly believe Carwin would have KO'd Nelson

I'd go with carwin. Could see him easily clinching nelson against the cage and unloading on him, like the Mir fight.

You do have to admit tho, if Roy caught him clean with his trademark overhand right, he could have knocked out Carwin. He has done this time and time again, it is just landing it that is sometimes the problem lol

Carwin would win. Little know fact is that he retired to continue pursuing his career in engineering. He currently powers NASA spacecrafts' takeoffs via vicious uppercuts.

Carwin.

The only person to survive one of his uppercuts is Brock.

I dunno about Carwin being a sure thing. Roy isn't exactly a cardio machine, but if he survived the first round against Carwin, he would just keep throwing that overhand until it did its grisly duty. Roy likes to brawl, but he's not above playing it safe (like he did on TUF 10), and for his part, Carwin's striking defense wasn't his strong suit - he would take a punch to give a punch, which is not a sound strategy for continued success.

Probably Carwin, but both guys fought JDS around the same time....and both were beaten soundly by UD. Carwin and Nelson have lots of punching power, but neither are really good strikers otherwise. Carwin has the wrestling edge. Maybe he'd put Nelson against the cage or on the ground and win by grinding out a decision.

Both have strong chins (Nelson's has weakened a bit, but was titanium back then). I doubt there would be a KO.

Nice breakdown, plus if Roy lands clean, he will put anyone's lights out. Roy is an enigma, he doesn't look very powerful, but he has that rare, true one punch ko power.

I agree that it probably would have been a slugfest, but I could also see it going to the clinch. Carwin also could have gone with his wrestling, especially if he got stunned, and Nelson hadn't used his ground game much in years at that point (and still hasn't). They both have/had scary punching power, but Carwin had more tools. I think the only way Nelson would have won would be if Carwin punched himself out like he did with Lesnar, trying to bust that iron chin, and I don't think Carwin would have made the same mistake twice.
