What happens to the legions of goat nuthuggers if McGregor proves to be a flash in the pan? Will there be tons of people claiming they were being ironic? Will they go into hard core denial? Mass suicide perhaps?

I would like to see somebody be as good as they make McGregor out to be, but I'm skeptical. Aldo smashes him regardless, he may have more success against Pettis but that's not a sure thing either. Hell, he's not even fought a top wrestler.

Oh I doubt people will be jumping off buildings. They will just glom onto the next 'sure thing.'

Meh. He needs an easier fight that Dustin. They should have given him manny gamburian or the ghost of MTB

I've become a huge fan of his. High hopes, but no unreasonable expectations. Would be super bummed if he loses in the near future (though I do like Poirier quite a bit, too), but I will continue to cheer for him as long as I can watch him fight.

Only on Sherdog can you be a top 10 fighter in your weight class, be a huge draw, but the inability to be #1 makes you a loser.

This guy will get shit on no matter what. TS and friends are just waiting for the right time to squat.

Then MMA gets set back again. Like it or not, the sport could do with more stars to move forward.

Everyone loses eventually. He's achieved goat status at this point, and no matter what happens in the future you can't take that away.

It won't happen to the GOAT.

OMFG he IS all hype right now!

What elite fighter/wrestler has he fought in the UFC? no one!
Has he shown to have a good chin and or good sub defense in the UFC? no!

Like Aldo said, he's another Chael Sonnon, and it wouldn't surprise me if 90-100% of Chaels fan are now latching on to McHypor!

Dustin is gonna send him back to that dreary homeland of his with a loss and a 6 pack of Mickey's Big Mouth so he can drink his shame away just like the typical Irishman.

Then people will start threads shitting all over the next exciting guy that comes around, whilst complaining that there are no stars anymore.

I'm not sure hype is something that can be lived up to, because the bar will just keep going higher until the point where someone landing a single punch on you means you don't deserve the hype.

We've seen it happen to Silva, GSP, Fedor, Jones, etc... And all of those guys are legitimate all time greats.

I say guys like Conor have the right idea. You may as well hype yourself to impossible proportions, because people will shit on you no matter what you do.

Thats what happens when people call somebody goat without fighting top 5

I'll still be a fan win or lose, I enjoy fighters that go out and KO their opponent.

That must be difficult to for you guys to endure.

You deserve to bash on Conor after he loses for the pain you've guy had to take during these few months of GOAT-Mania.

Only on sherdog can you not be tested and still get called GOAT above Fedor, Anderson and GSP

He has already lived up to the hype. Very few people could have accomplished what he's accomplished in just 2 or 3 fights. Every fight he's had there are haters who say. "this will be the guy to expose McGregor," but it doesn't happen. If you say it enough times, eventually you'll be right. Yes, there are jokers here who feed off the hype (which isn't entirely UFC brass, a lot of it is just from him/the ether, his finish rate, etc.), but there are way more haters who won't accept the fact that he's talented.
