Same here, but Mendes would be my first pick and Aldo my second. Although Aldo would deserve it first. My first pick would be Aldo, he's still at the top of the division. Mendes would be my second pick.
Mendes would be super interesting. He never really lost out of the top in the division. Sure, he lost to Conor and Edgar, but he could beat anyone not named Aldo and hes just a different challenge all around. More striking power and diversity than Frankie, but not as quick on the feet, fast in the hands, or straight on his punches. Takedowns don't mix as well with his striking, but more control when it's there. Not as much heart as Frankie (who the fuck does), but doesn't drop as easy.My first pick would be Aldo, he's still at the top of the division. Mendes would be my second pick.
Whoever it is should be fighting on the same card.
I feel for every title fight, the #2 or #3 ranked guy should be fighting on the same card and ready to move up if needed. This solves all weight cutting issues, short notice problems, guys not training and trying to step in, etc. Any easy fix for an all too common issue. It's absurd UFC hasn't learned their lesson by now.
Clearly the correct answer is Conor.
I wonder if Conor could still make 145. He really did look small against Khabib. Apparently he only cuts from 170 to 155, which is on the smaller end of lightweights. He's basically the same size as Ortega.
