3-4 times, and retires undefeated...Would he be in contention for GOAT status?

At the very least, he would have to be considered the greatest lightweight of all time, no?

I know folks get pissed at these GOAT discussion threads, but I was just thinking, if this guy retires as an undefeated champion, no one in UFC history has ever done that before. Would be pretty incredible.

Thoughts? Where would you rank him if he retires after a few title defenses?

Khabib would definitely be the undisputed lw goat imo. Theoretically this could happen:

-he'd be 29-0 or 30-0
-multiple title defenses in the best division in terms of depth
-wins over RDA, Barboza, Ferguson, plus 3-4 other top contenders

To me winner of this fight is GOAT LW. BJ couldn't string together 10-11 UFC wins is his life depended on it or even half that many and got owned by plenty.

What-if scenarios like this are tough. Depends who he beats, depends what happens with GSP/Jones/MM over that time period. If he beats Tony and Conor and 3 more title defenses, he'll unquestionably be the greatest lightweight of all time though.

I agree with the comment above. I know it sounds ridiculous to say, but in my eyes, the winner of this fight is the GOAT LW as of now. Having a 11 or 10 fight winning streak in today’s LW division is legit. If Khabib win’s next Saturday, he will be 10-0 in UFC, a feat only accomplished by Anderson Silva and Royce Gracie, that says a lot.

I think so (LW GOAT).
Don't know about overall GOAT, as there are plenty of fighters that surpassed that (29 wins).
I guess it depends on the strength of his competition, and how he wins.

Man Khabib was on queer st against Michael Johnson.. N Ferguson almost got KOed by late replacement... Stand up fight Conor blasts thru them like a breeze

If he beats Tony and Conor he's top 3 of all time.

anderson was 16-0 when he lost to weidman, jones could be 17-0 if you ignore the hammil stuff and ferguson is 10-0

Then he has a chance to replace Conor as LW GOAT, yes Arm.

Agreed.

Under those circumstances, easily the best LW of all time. GOAT status is a bit iffy and depends on the fights he takes.

The goat question is always so subjective for me

Dominance, levels of competition, physical advantages, skill, fight iq, athletic ability, all these things come into question for me

I mean he will have a case. What he does is incredible, and Khabib's American fan base will continue to grow if he beats Tony.

Anyway, I'd say YES or close. An argument could be made.

he be one of the best champs in history but conor fans will call him a bum since he wouldn't fight conor.

He'd be in the conversation but I think he needs more than 3-4 defences to get there

If he wins, defends 3-4 times, goes up to 170 and wins that... Now we're really talking

And it's certainly within the realm of possibility Khabib pulls that off
