Here is the far fetched scenario but always possible:

WHEN Jon Jones returns.....and IF he loses a close decision to DC, Then lets say he goes on to lose to Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch by TKO and then fights Jimi Manuwa and loses by knockout. Would this effect him being still in the GOAT discussion?

Jones beats both of those guys 99.5 times out of 100.

Silva has like 1 win in the last 6 or 7
Aldo just got KOd twice and isnt even 30
Fedor got KOd by a MW and nearly killed by a LHW
No it wouldnt hurt his GOAT sitting necessarily. Still one of the greatest of all time, but not really the definitive #1.

I think DC's cardio may still be a problem, but I heavily favor Gus against Jones in a rematch.

Woah! I was with you at the title if Jon loses, because it could happen as much as I dog DC the man can fight. Losing to that other list of men I'll still beat Jon all the time until he really starts losing not to some BS DQ...

Prime Jones literally kills every LHW that has ever fought MMA 10/10 times.

The closest you will ever see him come to losing his The Mauler who is a kryptonite for Jones but for me Jones easily won that fight.

So for me no one can surpass him and I don't think we will ever see a more dominant LHW again.

I dont know about that now, think about it... we havent seen Jones in a fight after a layoff this long. He was laid off for a short period and fought once against OSP and didnt look like the same Jon Jones. OSP had a broken arm I believe in that fight as well. Hes coming back from being inactive a long time.

agreed. If the Jones that fought OSP shows up to fight the GUS that fought Glover Jones is in a bit of trouble.

The Jones that fought OSP vs the last Gus we saw fight Glover. My money is on Alexander.

Lol at everyone who answers saying 'Jones Jones will not lose!' It's a hypothetical questions people, asking what if he does?

In answer to your question TS, no in my opinion no matter how many losses Jones suffers from now until the end of his career, you just need to look at his record. He completely cleaned out a division that was constantly referred to as a 'shark pool' before he came along. Remember the 205 belt was constantly changing hands, Rampage to Forrest to Rashad to Machida to Shogun. It was constantly promoted as the deepest division in the UFC at the time. Jones cleaned it out to a point where it eventually became easily one of the shallowest divisions.

If for whatever reason Jones now goes on a losing streak, I think it's safe to say that his achievements in (what we would therefore refer to as) his prime outweigh any misgivings for the rest of his career.

My money isnt on Jones until I see him do better than he did against OSP. He looked slow and timid. Gus will light him up all night if he shows up like that again

He soundly beat OSP, broke his arm if irc...and he did it after a long lay off and with a whole shitload of "personal issue" distractions on his mind.

I find it bewildering how people use that fight as some sort of evidence that Jones has lost a step.

Oh man come on??! Was Shogun a faded legend when he KTFO Machida and won the belt? Just cause he got completely and totally dominated by a 23 year old skinny guy. All of Jones' title defences are 100% legit... I guess with the obvious exception of Chael Sonnen.

Gus didn't do enough to win the fight, don't get butthurt, he lost. He's moved on, so should you.

Yeah and then he held it for 6 years defending it multiple times. Shit like that don't happen on a fluke guys.

I see what your saying but I'm comparing the fight with OSP to his dominating fights against top 5 killers. OSP isnt a slouch but still not one the prime Jones couldn't have stopped with ease.

I genuinely find it bewildering that MMA fans fail to recognise the achievements of one of the greatest fighters of our sport.
