If Islam beats JDM for the title does he defend against Shavkat or retire?

I recall Islam laying out an exit strategy but I can't remember the details. Just that one of his goals was to be a two weight champion before he retires. So say he beats JDM and wins the WW title, does he stick around and defend against Shavkat or does he immediately retire?

I think he might retire, but he should of course defend vs Shavkat or go back down and face Ilia if/when he has the LW title. Time will tell, it sucks too, you could have Ilia vs Charles, Paddy vs Gamrot and Arman vs Gaethje and end up with a really good lineup of actual contenders. At 170, Islam should face JDM and if he wins face Shavkat...of course.

Once he adds weight to fight JDM, I doubt he goes back down to LW even though he said he will. He was already having a tough cut there, and isn't getting younger.

That would be sweet if Islam actually hung around and defended against Shavkat, and if successful, Brady.

If that's the case I wouldn't even care look was the guy good hell yeah but he skipped all the fights that woulda Ben tough.. his best wins are Charles volk and porrier that's 3 fights and one is a super fight 145 champ.

I think he’ll feel good at 170 without the brutal weight cuts and he’ll defend the belt. Weight cutting is like 80% of why most fighters contemplate retiring lol.

Yup, he didn’t voluntarily vacate the lw belt. I don’t there is point in winning the ww belt and going back to lw. Especially now that he isn’t not the lw champ anymore. So I’d say he wins the ww belt and maybe defends it once and retires.
