As I understand the metabolism of EFAs, it appears that if I take fish oil, I dont need to worry about supplementing omega3 anymore...so no more omega3 eggs, flax seeds, etc. Right?

people take anywhere from less than 1g to 10g of omega3 a day.

i don't take flax seeds, but I think it has further benefits than just omega3.

as far as the eggs are concerned, I never tried to calculate the cost or really pay attention to the amount of omega 3 in them so not quite sure whether you're just better off buying cheaper eggs and using the savings on more fish oil caps. More than likely, in addition to having omega3 they are also organic and whatnot. If you're allready buying the organic eggs, might as well get those.

same thing with smart balance...you shouldn't really take it for your daily omega3 fix, but why not have a little while also using a product that replaces butter/margarine/cooking oil.

I wouldn't quite look at it in such a black and white way; DHA and EPA are just 2 of the 6 omega-3 fatty acids; fish oil just happens to be a great source, and plant sources don't contain these.

You still want to get other sources of omega-3 into your diet, such as flax, walnuts, and leafy greens (although, for the life of me, I can't really recall what "leafy green" contains any omega-3's)

As far as supplementation, goes, though, I think fish oil and a clean diet would cover your bases. If you were at all concerned, Udo's would be the best choice for plant based EFA's

Thanks.

On a related note, I just read that cod liver oil = fish oil + vitamins A and D. Overdosing vitamin A is dangerous, so dont overdose on cod liver oil. Overdosing on fish oil is not as big of a deal (hemorrhages are rare adverse effects)

Omega 3 eggs at Kroger are like,30 cents more than regular eggs.I believe I paid 1.79 for them, and they contain 330 mg of omega 3's,supposedly.

How many grams of fish oil do you take per day? At the moment im taking 2g with breakfast, 2 with dinner and consume 2 tablespoons of peanut butter that contains omega-3s (Smart Balance Brand).

Just to clarify we count grams of fish oil by looking at the "1g fat" per pill right? (stupid question perhaps but ive never taken fish oil until recently.)

I always assumed if they say fish oil they mean the 1g oil containing 120:180 mg of the active ingrediant

I will switch from cod liver oil (lots of vitamin A) to regular fish oil (no vitamin A), and I will increase my dose.

Yeah, thats the reason I take fish oil (and price), cod liver, being the depository of vitamins...you can OD
