If I put down $100 on Jones and $100 down on Cormier is it a win-win?

fuck, now everyone knows. jig is up.

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAAHHAHA

This looks like the right math to me.

BUT, I'm sure that if you would have timed your bet right on Cormier you could have found a way to bet now on Jones to guarantee yourself to win money no matter what.

Correct.

If you had bet on the underdog at a time when the odds were better (meaning worse, for an underdog), and then waited up until right before the fight to bet on the favorite once his line had moved as close as possible to even, then you could be in a scenario where the favorite winning would break you even (or almost even), and the underdog would win you a good enough chunk to make it worthwhile to make that "break even" bet, especially if you now felt that the dog was going to lose for some reason. It's called hedging the bet.

Works especially well if you had a parlay, and all items on the parlay have won except for the 1 remaining fight. Then you can "hedge" that lone bet by betting on the opposite to get your break even if the bet loses, but you win huge if the remaining parlay bet hits.

You see those nice, shiny casinos in Vegas? Lots of people paid for those.

Don't be one of them, TS. There's a reason the lottery and gambling are called a tax on stupid people.

If DC wins, you come out with 245
If Jones wins, you come out with roughly 160

So you're wagering 40 to win 45. If you just do a straight bet of 40 on DC, you will have a chance to win 58.

A straight $40 bet on DC is a much more sensible bet.

Sorry TS, you don't win at gambling.

There's the best explanation right there.

Just bet the 40 that you'd lose in the worst case scenario from your idea (Jones winning), and if Jones wins you still just lose 40 (like you would have with your idea), but if DC wins, you win 58 instead of the 45 like you would have in your idea.

If I put down $100 on Jones and $100 down on Cormier is it a win-win?

Its pretty much a win-win the way I see it

Either way I'm coming out wish some cash
If you bet each to win $100, if Jones wins you'll break even, if DC wins you'll lose $20 (going by the above -165/+145 odds).

Holy cow guys.... how has this thread gone on this long?

Bet A: -$100
Bet B: -$100
Total Bet: -$200
Assured Loss is -$100

Bet A Wins: +$61
Bet B Loss: -$100
Net Profit is: -$39

Bet A Loss: -$100
Bet B Wins: +$145
Net Profit is: +$45

The money in your account after a Jones win is a net loss. The winnings from a Cormier victory are cut because you tried to cover your bet. You're hedging your bets, essentially.

I sometimes wonder if you guys understand the amount of time/effort that goes into making these numbers. Vegas would absolutely love it if everyone bet both sides on matches that were this hard to predict.

Jon Jones (-165) vs. Daniel Cormier (+145)

The linesmakers wouldn't let someone with a DJ Khalid avatar outsmart them :icon_lol:

if you bet 100 on Jones and Cormier wins you lose 165.

If you bet 100 on Cormier and he wins you win 145

Stay in school, kids.

Wow this is a new level of... eh... of... i dont know... a new level. Awesome thread.

I believe that TS knows he's full of shit, and is just trying to get people riled up. Otherwise he'd be responding and debating.

Troll on.

This right here ... I actually knew math majors in college that went to work writing computer programs for casino sports-books that determine the betting lines in a way that guarantees the casinos profit on either outcome, virtually every time. This is why Lorenzo is rich and TS is probably poor.

So essentially what I have created is a way in minimizing risk

Essentially what you have created is a way of everyone knowing that you're either a troll, or incredibly stupid
