If everyone goes to college, won't it just be 13th-16th grade?

And those of us who went to public high-school know how great 9-12 were, education wise!

Socialism! Everyone gets a trophy!

never thought about it that way.

but there is merit to the idea that a bachelors degree is like a h.s degree these days and when you think about how life expectancy increased in the last 50 years and continues to increase an extra 4 years of schooling isn't that bad.

Except for the fact our public schooling is a joke, and anyone with even a modicum of intellect finds the academic portion of it trivial.

I've always wondered what would happen football/athletic scholarships once all colleges are tuition free? I think college athletics could end up being turned on its head.

It already is that way.

Everyone can have a college degree, but you'll just have people with college degrees digging ditches and serving burgers.

No, man. The only reason for college football to exist is to make money for the school.

Free College/Uni doesn't mean everyone gets to go, it doesn't work that way even in countries with free education.

Or you could just say you'd have a more highly-educated populace. That would be a good thing.

Is there something wrong with having a better-educated country?

I think alot of the angst over the issue is driven by the strange idea that publicly funded college would somehow be economically crippling to the nation as a whole.

Its kind of ridiculous since we are far more economically productive on a per person basis and many nations have been essentially completely subsidizing post secondary education since before WW2. I sometimes wonder what it must be like to be so disconnected from realty that watching public funding dry up on virtually every front and still screaming about where the money is going to come from! strange world.

Lol, I wish to share some knowledge with you, no one is offering free college to everyone.

Yeah it goes to the baseball model of professional, but not big money.

People with college degrees are already digging ditches and serving burgers. Want to know why? Most people are seeing a massive devaluation of their respective degrees. Not to mention the cost of tuition is skyrocketing and student loans with ridiculous interest rates aren't getting paid off for years after they graduate.

I don't see a problem with raising the bar for educational standards. Aside from outlandish costs and debt that is...

you are automatically making the assumption that everyone will go

isn't it a case of making it easier to access for those who are intellectually capable but financially unable to do so?

You still have to have the grades. Anyone can go today if they know how to get a grant or loan. Which is incredibly easy. I mean literally anyone with half a brain can go to college. You're just going to have debt afterwards.

And no its not just 13-16th. People seperate themselves into the career field they want.

College tuition at public schools needs to be reeled in though. With how easy it is to get loans they are taking advantage of people. That ain't cool especially with all the shitty degrees and general ed classed they have and make you take.

A lot of high school students suck so much that a bachelors is now becoming a requirement. College for too many students is shit you should have learned in high school but instead you screwed around. There is a noticeable gap between foreign high school grads and u.s. high school grads and it isn't all the teachers and the schools fault.

We have a service based economy. People need to go to college because it is extremely difficult to get a good paying job without a degree.

Don't blame socialism, blame capitalism. So many people want to go to college because that's what the market demands. And companies perpetually devaluing labor doesn't really help.
