If Conor McGregor makes sudden comeback who should he fight next?

He's waiting out to get Khabib next for the biggest mixed martial arts fight in history. Probably the end of the year PPV.

Cerrone rematch

Cerrone plays ball and his fans disregarded the comedy of the matchup vs someone on a losing streak the first time, so no reason that trick wouldn't work again/help keep him ranked for infinity. Best fight for his twitter career at this point.

Both can weigh in at 173 this time and you can make it a MW fight if they need a new gimmick. Advertise that Conor has wins at 4 divisions after Cerrone flops 10 seconds sooner this time around.

Conor at MW would be super interesting. His speed advantage would be lethal combination with his laser accuracy and nobody takes his left hand cleanly without getting rocked.

I think he should fight Masvidal as it would create some hype

Conor doesn't want a top opponent, which is why despite his long career he only has a couple top wins.

His team has been asking about Faber and Edgar. For middleweight, they're probably asking for Evan Tanner.

Imagine how he would do at HW! He ko's Francis easily in seconds. I mean, if Khabib couldn't take that left what is Francis gonna do?

hehe you really think Poirier is the same guy he was almost 7 years ago when that fight happened? come on he is way better at LW and might be the current best boxer at LW.

can agree with your Charles Oliveira take

Ferguson is still a big name and ranked high

Didn't Nate got dominated by masvidal? it was 3-0 before Masvidal TKO'd him. it was one way traffic and if you think Nate has something for Masvidal I have bad news for you. Conor fights so rarely anyway I don't want to see him fight the same guy three times.
I agree on you Nate points. But Conor and his coach have mentioned the trilogy on several occasions.

Conor wants Khabib in Russia. He even held a press conference there.

After seeing the stunning performance Conor had in his 170 lbs fight against Cowboy Cerrone in UFC 246 its quaranteed his comeback fight is gonna be something special.
There are few options Ive heard frequently mentioned:

Khabib rematch if he gets a win against Gathje. They need to run it back at some point.
Anderson Silva at 176 lbs Catchweight. Both fighters agreed but UFC refused saying Silva is too old for that.
Floyd Mayweather rematch but this time in MMA. Conor would keep it standing to prove a point.

It doesnt really matter who Conor fights its still gonna do great numbers but those could break the PPV record.
He should fight a gatekeeper, ranked in the #4 to #7 range.

He aldready destroyed Poirier so that fight will never happen. Nobody knows who Oliveira is and Tony just got dominated by Gaethje.

the guy got dominated by khabib but his fans want a rematch, yet dismiss him rematching poirier lol
double standards...

I'd love to see him fight Tony Ferguson. Tony deserves the payday, and a win over Conor makes him a star among the mainstream fans and will put him in the title picture again (fast route). And Conor will be tested against an all-time great LW, against a guy with tons of heart and skills, and if he wins will be a legit title contender (as Dustin just had a title shot and it was fairly one-sided, so a win over Hooker will not be enough to rematch Khabib should Khabib beat Justin).

THe fight makes sense for both guys.

1) Poirier had nothing for Conor in their first fight the only way he might take that is if Dustin somehow won a belt.
2) Nowhere near popular enough and has no history with him at all. Thats wasted time of his prime years and I like Charles.
3) Just got dominated by Gathje. There is nothing to gain for Conor everyone would downplay that win no matter how flawless his performance is.

if Nate beats masvidal in their rematch then he might get some hype back and Conor might get interested.
So only title/money fights for Conor? Poirier is a well deserved opponent now, but he isnt an easy fight for anyone...Tony just the same, him losing to Gaethje has nothing to do with Conor, who got outclassed by Khabib (a rematch he isnt getting any time soon) and returned to fight Cowboy who did show up to collect a paycheck and that was it.

Oliveira is a worthy opponent, just not a draw, Conor is tho, so fight should sell well anyway, he isnt taking that cause its no title/money fight and he could very well lose the fight.

Nate vs Masvidal is another pointless money rematch cause Masvidal ducked the title fight, Nate isnt winning the rematch if it ever happens, if anything then make Masvidal vs Conor now, why wait on stars to align? He outclassed Nate for 3 rounds until it got stopped by the doctor.
