The fact that the guy made MMA his main focus for two years with deviating, and trained with serious people shows a lot.
If anyone did that they should be good enough to at least step into the cage.

are u crazy? before entering UFC GSP was already aquainted with several forms of grappling.
hell Jackson's gym when it first started was strictly a grappling joint untill winklejohn and that other guy joined.
No wait even more, GSP was already twinning many martial art torniments like karate before his MMA debute, and was well-versed in BJJ before signing with the UFC, and recieved his black belt well into his career under a fucking Gracie.
Nobody was more prevaliged than GSP in terms of training: Renzo, Roach, Jackson, Zahabi, ..etc
And he was always an athlete all his life, and he had talent.

This is not a question of amateur wrestling, CM Punk has no background competing or formal training in any sport (or even traditional martial art) ever, from his days as a fetus in his mom's vagina till the recent year as he randomly joined a great gym and signed by the top company in the sport. ridiculous!
