If Bisping retires after losing the belt

For sure.

What he did last weekend, after being in the game for so long and fighting pretty much everyone in the division at one time or another, dude is one of the sports legends.

He already is. He introduced mma into Europe at a larger scale, has fought at the top for more than a decade and managed to win the championship whilst partially sighted at the grand old age of 37. His legacy could never be in question. Not even by the idiot's.

Only if Matt Serra and Forrest Griffin can be called "legends" too.

No, I don't think so.

But his title win was legendary. It was like Serra's, but it took much longer to get there.

He has left behind a legacy. Not a legend for being the most skilled fighter, but for always brining it and staying active throughout his career. Plus, that Rockhold KO was just legendary and really cements his status among the greats of the sport.

If there were a Gate Keeper Mt. Rushmore, Bisping would be the biggest figure.

Well, Matt Serra won a belt from GSP, which nobody else managed to do. I'm impressed by his performance.

Most fighters never get a UFC championship. Most fighters don't even get to fight for the belt. Hell, most fighters don't even get to fight in the UFC. Bisping does not belong in the GOAT discussion, but he's not just legit, he's elite.

jimmies will be rustled if he decides to retire now

Michael Bisping is already a legend. Has more achievements than half the guys in the official HoF, and now he has a belt to really cement his legacy.

Yes, TS, he has had a legendary career.

Talk about the long steep path to the top of the mountain.

Give the man his due.

He's already an MMA legend. He was before he won the belt. He's been a star in the UFC for ten years and has been ranked in the top ten for most of that. For better or worse he's been part of a lot of the biggest moments and events in mma.

As a long time Bisping hater I say he already cemented himself as a legend for staying relevant this long and finally realizing his dream of being a champion.

Won the Ultimate Fighter
Flew the flag for British and European MMA
Fought in the UFC for more than ten years
Shares the record for joint most wins in the UFC with George St Pierre and has a chance of breaking the record
Won the middleweight world championship

Already a legend

The only things counting against him were those repeated losses in title eliminators, but I think in the future, with USADA now handling testing, I think history will look back on Bispings defeats far more kindly than they do now

IF Bisping truly is clean, and truly has been fighting since his debut clean (And I say If because its hard to trust anyone in sport over the last god knows how many years), then I think its fair to ask the question "What could have been?"
