The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has resumed construction on 13.4 miles of levee in the Rio Grande Valley, which were left unfinished after President Biden
signed an executive order on his first day in office pausing construction on the southern border.
The Department of Homeland Security
announced last month that it was taking steps to repair the Rio Grande Valley's flood barrier system, after the Trump administration made holes in the structure to make way for the border wall.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers confirmed in a statement to The Hill that the construction has officially resumed.
"In support of CBP's border infrastructure program, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has resumed DHS-funded design and construction support on approximately 13.4 miles of levee in the Rio Grande Valley that were partially excavated or at various levels of construction when work on the wall was paused for review," Major Grace Geiger, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said in a statement...
