Simple, don't allow whitebelts to post links, or pictures. This would put an end to most of the fake links, gay/scat porn pics, and other trollings.
The trolls are making a joke of this place, and nothing is being done about it. Oh, they're banned? Whoopty fucking do. That punishment really works. Seriously, just take a look around. 75%+ of the complete assholes on the forum all have a Join Date of the current month or the month just prior. I'd go so far as to say that at least half of the current recent joinee's are people who have been previously banned. So who are we protecting here by rejecting this idea? It's certainly not us vet's whom have proven to want to have real MMA discussion. No, we're protecting the newbies, half of which are trolls. It's retarted, and it's not working.
I wish I was an Admin because I would clean this place up so fast. Here is exactly how strict I would be:
I would create a Whitebelt Forum.
This would be the ONLY place a Whitebelt can post. Other forums do it, and it works.
This forum would be heavily Moderated with very low tolerance to ignorance. Any trolls would be immediately banned. This way, in order for a Whitebelt to graduate to other forums, he would have to intelligently post 150 times.
Yellowbelts can only post in existing threads and are unable to start their own.
This keeps those trolls so determined to get past the Whitebelt stage from posting their own thread. They can only troll in someone else's, and are also held at a stricter level than other belt ranks as far as getting banned.
Orangebelts + can post their own threads.
This would cripple the current troll state of people posting threads with false rumors that do nothing but piss people off and add to the negative sentiment that floods these boards.
YellowCarded Members Do Not earn postnumbers.
A person who is breaking the rules is unable to add to their post count while being yellow'd. This hinders the smarter trolls from building closer to Yellow or Orange Status, and causes them to be more "rules oriented".
So what's the problem with this idea? Who suffers? Certainly not us veterans whom have proven to take this board seriously. So the people who suffer are the minority of new joins whom are looking to actually take part in serious discussion. However they still can. They can still discuss MMA in the Whitebelt Forum. And it's not like they cannot PM someone to start a thread for them in the Heavyweight Forum, a forum he can still READ even if he cannot post in it. Plus, how long does it actually take to hit 150 posts? Not very long at all. A week or three?
It's not that big of a punishment to the new joins, and it protects those of us whom are here to discuss MMA and not amuse ourselves by pissing people off or posting false MMA rumors. I seriously think that these masses of trolls are a driving force behind the negativity of these forums. They post obnoxious things like "Fedor would be average in the UFC and would lose to Jake O'Brien!" or "Pride Rules and the UFC fucking sucks ass!". These posts are designed to piss people off, and those serious posters only get more biased because they take this shit seriously and in turn become haters even more touchy. The trolls are feeding the negitivity with shit like false rumors and ignorant posts which only annoy people, and now the REAL posters are posting angered.
The trolls would be exterminated down to only the most determined, and even they would eventually quit, because how annoying and frustrating would it be for them to go through this process every day or week? Eventually it would get old and the benefits of pissing people off for fun would no longer be worth the effort. Not only that, but new posters coming in would grow used to these forums under stricter guidelines and would be less likely to go apeshit having grown under strict rules.
I don't know how much worse it has to get for the Admin's to want to do something about it. It's only getting worse. The forums today are nothing like they were when I started. Sure, there were always rude pricks, but the trolls were minimal and now it's a fucking epidemic because no one is doing anything to stop them, and banning them clearly isn't stopping them.
Oh, and if you're an old vet with only 50 posts... well for one, you don't post much anyway so why should they care? And two, if they DO care you could always impliment a rule that if your account is 2 months old, you gain Yellowbelt Abilities. If your account is 4 months old, you gain Orangebelt+ Abilities.
Here is my idea.
That would definitely stop the trolling, but I doubt many new members would stay if they could only post in a whitebelt forum.
I am a white belt/newb/apparently scum of the earth, but I probably know more about MMA than 90% of the people on here. I just happen to spend more time in the gym than on the computer... So maybe all you precious blue, orange, black belts and whatever, could answer a question. When did it become so wrong to be new at something? If any of you are actually trained in martial arts, remember, you were new to all of this once before as well. Zen philosophies actually teach you to always wear the white belt.... to always begin with a new mind. Clean and clear. You're not special because you have "posted" on sherdog 10,000 times! Restricting people from posting, or forcing members into certain areas may work to an extent, but in the long run, the quality of the discussions and the quality of this website will diminish.

What did Zen philosophies say about opening a thread, only to see giant gay cock in your face?
Good one. And that has happened, and I am at work so that shit ain't cool.
I do agree that a probationary period should be initiated. I wouldn't go as far as to make a white belt forum only. I do like that idea of not letting anyone below orange post links, pics, or started threads.
I have an idea.
Suck it up. The main problem I have is with threads that have misleading informatioin in the title and arent deleted soon enough.
i like the idea of not letting whitebelts post links or images. that would be a help. i never bought into the idea of taking away the thread starting ability though.
