I'd rather see a 4-rounder with guys going all-out, then 5 where guys pace themselves

I've come to the conclusion that 5-round fights often aren't as interesting to me because guys often seem to "pace themselves" to last the distance, which results in more lukewarm action. Hendricks has said outright that he does this.

Honestly, I'd rather see a title fight scheduled for 4-rounds, where guys go much harder, then 5 lukewarm ones.

    What say you?

You must be missing the fact that 4 rounds can result in a tie.

Youre right that 5 rounders often seem to drag. Of course 4 rounds isnt going to work because we'll have draws. Maybe somewhere in between; maybe 3 five minute rounds and 2 three minute championship rounds?

Guys would still pace themselves in 4 round fights.

4 round fights means a lot more draws.

Yep. Unless there be a sudden victory 5th round which this would just never happen.

Some guys even pace themselves in 3 round fights, let alone 5.

Really what do you think the difference is going to be between 20 minutes and 25 minutes???

Pacing yourself and being smart is part of the sport and everyone should do it. I cringe at these dudes who gas out in 90 seconds and then look like they are wading though jello the rest of the fight.

this actually isn't a bad idea...only if you had the 5th round being like a overtime tie breaker. Maybe they could try this for 5 round non championship fights?
I hate seeing guys in the 1st or 2nd round of a 5 rounder obviously pacing themselves and either giving away those rounds or not doing anything entirely.

i'd rather see a 12 rounder where guys went all out than a four rounder where the guys went all out. IMO, QFT, IIRC

would you rather see a guy go all out for 5 or pace themselves for 3? or do you agree going all out for four rounds is the best scenario?

So more draws? More immediate rematches? ... Dana, is that you?

What makes you think they would go all out if it's a four rounder instead of five?

5 rounders stand out to me as creating more good fights than bad.

Also, people seemed to forget that non title main events used to consistently leave the viewer wishing that the fighters had 2 more rounds to work it out.

People pace for three rounds too.... They train for the number of rounds. Changing to a format that facilitates draws won't help

I don't think you've thought this through, and in the event of a tie you go to sudden death 5th round....

Nobody can sprint full speed for 5, 10, or 15 minutes, much less 25. Fighters have to pace themselves regardless of whether the fight is 4 rounds, 5 rounds, or 1 round.

I'd prefer more rounds, not less. More 5-rounders, say for any fight between two "ranked" fighters, and lots of title fights could have done with another two rounds.

A fighter can only 'pace' themselves if they are either dictating the pace themselves or the opponent cant/wont push them beyond their comfort zone.
