I'd rather get soccer kicked in the face than have this happen

    It is certainly decisive.

Kind of sad that the ref let that occur though, seems pretty clear Huerta was done and completely defenseless.

I am a big fan of soccer kicks, stomps, knees, but I also appreciate a ref paying attention and preventing needless damage.

In case you've never seen the fight it's Danny Kingad vs Yuya Wakamatsu. It was part of Danny's game plan to kick that leg because he did it many many times in all 3 rounds. The kick in the gif happened toward the end of the 2nd round. Yuya fought the 3rd round and his movement wasn't even effected by it. He wasn't even limping or staggered.

This is simply because the nfl runs a secret fight club in off season, and the first rule of fight club… so just because we don’t see these guys getting knocked out on our televisions, doesn’t subtract from the violent back room wars these dudes have

Randomly. I have blown my ACL and got knocked out in an MMA match and i would take the KO EVERY SINGLE TIME. not close.

Did you just post something sensical in this nonsensical thread? How fucking dare you.

Soccer kicks tend to be a very defenseless (many times fighter is already hurt) position so a fighter learning to defend them is going to be a more difficult than someone learning how to defend those knee stomps. Both should be allowed.

People watch a sport where you can punch someone in the head until they lose consciousness but have a hissy fit about kicking knees, strange behaviour

In my mind anything other than attacks to the groin and eye should be allowed, from any angle, at any time

I get what you mean, but i disagree (see the post below, also)

If a guy who used to play soccer kicks you in the head with even a very short run uo and full force, i'm fairly certain that it'd put you into a life-threatening situation.

You know there's other types of brain injuries than CTE right?

Anyone arguing about concussive blows being better than repeated strikes have completely ignored the danger of acute brain injuries.

One time heavy blows can cause irreversible brain injuries & cognitive impairment, brain bleeds & haemorrhages, or paralysis. And those are today, not 15 yrs time

I mean it's a really silly argument to be honest. A soccer kick might not be so bad or it might cause permanent life altering damage. To the HEAD. Wouldn't wish either on a broke dick dog.

That was just shit reffing. Pretty sure ONE was still under open guard rule when that happened as well, making that kick illegal. Shimada was even yelling "no kick".

And yet people always jump to saying one strike to the head will do brain damage worse than tearing your knee. I hate the knee stomp and have never heard anyone give a good argument against it, just sarcastic whataboutisms like "Why don't we just ban headstrikes cuz of tbi/cte" or some fake macho arguments that could have easily been the same for old rules that are now fouls like biting, gouging, hair pulling, groin strikes, etc.. "I thought this was a fight, why are you banning moves?" or the dumbest argument which is rarity in "people don't throw these a lot, so it hardly ever happens."

It's not a fight. It hasn't been a fight for decades. It's regulated for safety and regulations need to keep up to date with the dangers to the athletes.

Technically speaking, the second you grab an armbar, you can just buck your hips and try to snap the arm, whether or not you even fully locked it in. People don't do that because they're not assholes, and if there was a fighter who did, they would quickly earn a reputation worse than Paul Harris. And it would take very few of those before some fighters would refuse to fight that person, and regulatory bodies intervene. Striking at a joint with the same intended purpose is the same thing
