I tried to watch Bladerunner a couple of years ago. I went into it expecting like a big action sci fi adventure movie and ended up being somewhat disappointed with what I got, honestly I thought it was boring and didn't even really pay much attention to it I just had it going as background noise while reading stuff on my laptop.

Last night I gave it another chance, this time giving it my undivided attention since I was watching it on my new 4K curve with a high end soundbar. What an experience. What a movie. I was really blown away by it this time. The story is fabulous, the music is great, this may be one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's like almost every frame, every shot is like a beautiful work of art with so much going on within it.

I can't stop thinking about how great this movie was. I want to talk about it more so post something. What do you think about this movie?

Might have to give it another try.

Watched it a long time ago and sort of did like you, didn't pay that much attention. Tried watching it again a few months ago but ended up falling asleep somewhere past the beginning.

Forgot to mention that I watched "The Final Cut" which seemed very different from the version I watched a few years ago(an old VHS tape I found at a thrift store). I could have swore Harrison Ford's character had like a monologue or something throughout the VHS version I watched, like an old detective movie or something.

He does, and it literally ruins the movie.

Any version of Scott's five billion cuts, is better than than the theatrical release.

I've seen it a few times now and I'm still not a fan tbh. The monologue at the end is fantastic though.

I love Blade Runner. It's not perfect and I always lose interest at points, but overall it's pretty unforgettable

Should definitely read some Philip K Dick if you're up to it ts

Though I really enjoyed the film, for some reason I preferred Do Androids Dream... The movie had atmosphere but a lot of context and details were omitted.

I feel like I should rewatch this before the sequel comes out but which of the cuts is the "definitive" version? Or is there even one?

Classic PKD story with amazing Ridley Scott production. Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer were both top tier.

Very interested in the 2017 reboot, but not too thrilled about Ryan Gosling. Hollywood needs it to be a blockbuster, so they are relying on a big name actor to draw crowds, as opposed to actually producing quality content.

For any PKD fans, also check out The Man In The High Castle on Amazon. Season 2 kind of blew me away. Really well done series.

I'm interested in these books, will definitely check them out.

I watched The Final Cut on DVD that came out in 2007 on my 4K curve with great sound bar. It was so awesome I couldn't sleep last night. Movies like this and Apocalypse Now look so great on this TV. The soundtrack for Bladerunner really drew me into the movie, that was some really great music that set such a good tone for the film. I wonder if Bladerunner was released on 4K remaster?

It's a great sci-fi movie and I am somewhat anxiously awaiting the sequel.

My poor buddy never can quite like the movie, no matter how many times he's tried.

This book kind of helps:

But I also understand that a movie should be self-evident in its own greatness. I didn't like the movie particularly the first time I saw it, but after much discussion and repeat viewings I finally came to understand its significance. I grew up with the film, and its various versions, so I wonder when new viewers discover it -- is it like when new viewers discover DIE HARD? Both films are lauded as pinnacles of their genres, game-changers. Expectations are nominally high. Then upon actual viewing, often the reaction is lukewarm -- some people feel cheated, like they might have missed something.

So soak in the soundtrack and yer good to go.

The final cut is the easiest to find, and likely Scott's choice cut.

Really though, any version that doesn't have Ford's narration should suffice.

To be fair Ford was probably a much bigger mainstream star in 1982 than Gosling is today coming off of Star Wars and Raiders.

I'm still looking forward to the new film but my expectations are tempered somewhat, for one thing its not exactly original being another loner gumshoe/assasin story is it? for another the visuals don't really strike me as being that similar to the original. Yeah some of the designs are the same but its much more minimalist rather than the clutter overload of the original, makes me wish in some respects Gareth Edwards had gotten the film as I think parts of Rogue One felt very Bladerunnerish.

It seems like its going to be much more plot heavy than the original as well, a lot of the success of that film was that it was so simple being much more of a character study and romance/morality rumination with an amazing atmosphere(which I'm guessing confounds a lot of peoples expectations). Personally I would actually be more interested in seeing some kind of plot focused on a Zora style replicant, her and Pris arguably got the short end of the stick character wise in the original.

The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch is definitively one of his most thoughtful and creative products. Definitively recommended if you want to see Dick's mind at work.

Well... time to go back and unlike every comment of Zer's that I've liked in the past! Tough thing to do but a man has to do what's right. And I thought I was going to get some sleep tonight...
:p

i remember playing fallout 4 and realizing how many subplots are basically bladerunner, so i stopped, rewatched it and then played more of the replicant/synth sidequests and it was more fun
