I want to hear an unpopular food opinion about your own region/culture

Austria: Sweet main courses are some bullshit. Also dislike the obsession with apples.
Other than that, I love our kitchen.

Examples of sweet austrian main courses:
Kaiserschmarrn Photo
Germknödel Photo
Palatschinken (I love those though lol, just not served as main course) Photo

Du was m8?

Kaiserschmarrn is a main course, now? It s a dessert and it's god tier.

I always thought it was Bavarian....the more you know...

Yesterday's thread devolved into a bit of a partisan food fight so lets take it a step in different direction today by looking inwards and offering an unpopular food opinion about your own region/culture.

UK

I'll never understand my Country's obsession with baked beans. They are so overrated. Nothing more disappointing than forgetting to tell a waiter to hold the beans when i go for a full English.

Also:

Full Irish > Full English

I'm American. I think American cheese absolutely sucks, especially the white variety. It was also invented by a Canadian. I wish it was called Canadian cheese instead.

Regionally, I come from New England. Like the British, we seem to like baked beans a bit too much. Our way of boiling hot dogs instead of frying or grilling them sucks. The "Greek pizza" style sucks as well. We have good Italian pizza places, but too many Greek pizza joints run by Greeks. The Maine-style cold lobster roll made with mayo sucks. Unfortunately this has become the dominant style in New England and the US as a whole. The Connecticut-style warm lobster roll with melted butter is far superior.

Agree on both counts, fuck baked beans

And full Irish is the goat fried breakfast

Tea with milk is the worst drink in the world, milk in general is the devil's jizz.
Pork joints, chops, belly etc, taste human to me

Excellent post. Beans suck shit. Tea with milk is a detestable beverage. Lol at pork tasting human. I love pork but see where you are coming from.

If youre a bit sensitive about pork tasting like human flesh l’d stay away from trying boiled Irish ham hocks.

the hair on the toes tickles your gums

I am Québécois.

We own the 3 most calories-dense foods made for humans :
- cretons : some pork fat spread. Not great tbh.
- tourtière : some meat pie. The most filling shit you can eat. Pretty good.
- pudding chômeur : imagine blending sugar and butter and getting more calories than the sum of both. Not sure how we manage that but it has to be the only sweet I have tasted where I legit think that it could become dangerous in high doses, like a caloric shock.

Lumberjack stuff all of it.

Actually I do love a nice boiled ham, last one I did was in orange juice then finished off in the oven with marmalade and orange slices

You are definitely partial to smoked kippers on occasion, arent you.

Prolly enjoy the odd slice of malt loaf too.

I’m Russian. In our cuisine we use a lot of condensed milk for desserts, sweet sauces and breakfast dishes like crepes.

It’s absolutely delicious if used wisely but people put a lot of it and make everything just so overly sweet for my liking. It also has a weird consistency. It’s good but I don’t understand the obsession with it.

Also eating Shawermas is something I don’t understand.

It is not Russian food but everyone eats it from time to time. It’s equivalent to hot dogs in America. But I just don’t like them, as a lot of them are made at shady places and there’s been quite a few instances where I found hair.

I'll gladly take burritos any day over this, even though they are essentially almost identical.

I do like Sherdog a lot lately, that made me laugh too.

Trenton-style/Chambersburg-style pizza is the absolute best.

Roast pork with broccoli rabe & sharp provolone >>> buffalo chicken cheesesteak >>> cheesesteak.

Malt loaf!!! With marg not butter.
