After what I just saw, the guy is just too relaxed in there and always gets hit a lot against anyone who has decent hands. I don't know why he keeps his hands so low at all times when he should know his defense isn't good enough.

Johnson is a quitter with no heart, but I have to be honest. With his power and Gus not improving his defense, I just don't see a win for Alexander. Is his movement good enough to survive the initial onslaught and make Johnson quit like many others have done? Doubtful.

Gus would be a panic wrestler the moment they stare down at the weigh ins.

Man. He looked like absolute shit against Rumble the first time. Can't help but feel like he's in the middle of a rut right now.

Yeah, it's a bad match up for Gus. Both Rumble and DC are bad match ups for him.

Poor Gus, always a bridesmaid ...

I was hoping Gus would excell post-USADA.

Maybe he still will ...

He did what he had to today.

I thought so too but after seeing Jan landing at will on Gus I think Rumbles knocks him the fuck out even faster in rematch. Gus needs few more tune up fights and work on his head movement.

He would have to chase takedowns right from the start, but to be fair thats currently the right game plan for everyone fighting Rumble. Everyone gets hit by Rumble standing, not just Gus. DC got tooled pretty much in every exchange against Rumble aswell, just managed to survive that time.

Gus would have to land something hard early on to earn some respect. He seems like a slow starter who needs to get hit to get going, that's obviously the wrong approach against Johnson.

Fighting these lower rank guys comes with some danger sometimes, Gus won but his stock dropped a little

AJ is a bad match-up for anyone...even HW are not safe with this dude....remembered how he outclassed Arlovsky

Gus just falls short and lacks the tools to handle truly explosive and powerful guys with a wrestling base, an unfortunate place to be in the LHW division right now, I'm a big Gus fan BTW. The guy is tough as nails and an excellent fighter, hes capable keeping it competitive, but not of beating the top guys.

Not everyone can be a champion no matter how hard they train or how much they want it, especially since Gus hasn't seemed to improve much since the Jones fight.

TS when he thought that Gus would beat rumble:

Who is that, some unknown russian he feasted on outside the UFC? Or do you mean Andrei Arlovski, the glass chinned dude he couldn't KO and had to crack his jaw after the bell to win on points?

The other HW's would smash the quitter Johnson because he would face a lot of adversity there, and that does not sit well with any quitter.

Contrary on what you say, Gus looked good the first time he fought Rumble until that accidental break and his corner screwing it up for him.
I don't think he looked relaxed last night. He looked a little stiff, which might be contributed to ring rust.
That being said I think his chances of defeating Rumble are slowly diminishing.

But Gus from 1-2 years ago was definitely a big treat to Rumble and all other LHWs.

It could be that all the shots he has taken is catching up to him. He took a tremendous amount of damage against Jones, DC and Johnson and always eats shots to deliver his own even in his wins like Shogun and Manuwa.

Gus doesn't have what it takes to defeat elite fighters. It is fairly obvious by now.

Apparently, he doesn't have what it takes to have exciting fights anymore, either. Not sure where that leaves him.

Its safe to say Gus is not in his prime anymore. Like when he fought Jones

yes, he got KTFO but he was razor sharp close to win the belt against the current and the former champs. (both dudes top 5 LHW GOATS for me) Some say he won both matches. And many people forget the epic match against Cormier probably because every one seems to agree 2015 FOTY was Robbie vs Rory. But I think Cormier got hurt worse in that fight that against Rumble and Jones.

So the Mauler is not over. he just didn't have a starred night. Cut him some slack.

But yes, probably Rumble is the worst match up for him.

Putting Jones in a wheelchair and arguably winning the contest is clearly an indication that he was not in his prime. Good point.

No, he actually means Andrei Arlovksi, the guy who immediately after getting beaten by Rumble went on to beat everyone they put in front of him until he got to the current UFC HW Champ. You probably haven't heard of him, it's someone only an MMA fan would know.
