I've been going back and forth on this one but it feels like I'm just trying to convince myself that Stipe will be okay.

The first fight, I chose Stipe but I think the fact that they have to fight again, favors Francis. He had more room to learn and improve. His technical striking is underrated too. He's not just a brawler despite what you saw against Jairzinho. The biggest thing that Francis has going against him is his cardio.

I'm a fan of both guys but I want Stipe to win because I think that Francis can become champ anyway when Stipe retires. This is gonna be a tougher and even more dangerous fight than the first time but I hope Stipe can pull it off. If he can, I'll be so impressed.

This fight actually reminds me of Couture/Liddell when Chuck lost the first fight but was able to make adjustments and catch Randy in the second one.

I want him(Stipe) to win just to see Red Goof.

Zhang beats the pulp out of both girls at the same time

I think you will be surprised

I won't. I've ran through the scenario of Stipe winning. It's clearly possible and I'll be happy if he pulls it off.

I just think that the time between the two fights works in Francis's favor.

50/50 fight.

Either Francis KO's him early or Stipe wins a decision or a late stoppage when Francis is tired.

I mean is there any other scenario worth even mentioning here??

What's this supposed to show? Are you such a casual that you don't know fighters win rematches sometimes?

Edit: backing it up with real data like a true sherdogger.

Since UFC 1, when fighters have faced each other for a repeat bout, the winner of the previous fight has gone 71-44-3 in the rematch.

Stipe is a better fighter but damn he is too small i think gonna be a rough first 2 rounds he should have come in at 243

I think people are placing too much stock in the first fight honestly.

Stipe can still do it but he can't expect the same Francis. I know we haven't seen it from Francis yet and that makes it even more deceptive. It's going to take even MORE from Stipe this time.

Like I said, this reminds me of a Couture/Liddell scenario.

Oh he is...

I predict Stipe will be the first(?) fighter in MMA history to fight back to back trilogies, he'll lose tonight and lose the third fight. Gotta respect Stipe for taking this challenge once again, he really could have walked away. This is assuming uncle Dana even gives him a third fight against Francis, Stipe might end up getting screwed tbh.

If he wins that'd be incredible, but the cage will be his undoing.

Here is a thought I had from another post...might be something to consider.

After re-watching the first fight and pondering this over and over. I am actually wondering if Francis will be less dangerous standing and just overall than the first fight. Reason being is that his thought process will be very different. He's gonna be constantly thinking about the wrestling, he's trained this camp heavily I am sure but that will change a fighters instincts in a fight. Furthermore, he knows he has to be more patient and take a more conservative approach with his striking knowing the first fight he gassed, missed on his big shots when trying to instantly KO Stipe. So I think we are going to see a more thinking and patient Francis.

But does that style really benefit him?? Stipe is the more rhythm fighter and once he gets in the flow of boxing and changing levels he's very hard to deal with.

I think the more thinking and patient Francis may end up being more hesitant if his opening doesn't come and he has to constantly be thinking about the TD. And I think that goes against what has made him so successful. I don't know if this approach will work well. We saw how he looked in a fight where he hesitated vs Lewis.

With all that said, Francis can just KO him inside the first minute lol. I am like 60/40, Francis by KO early. The 40 Stipe wins a grinding decision.

Interesting... Interesting... I hope you're right about the first part. I'm not placing any stock in the Lewis fight though. Francis has worked passed that mental block.

Thanks for the input.

The only thing that has me thinking Stipe might lose is his age. I think he's better in pretty much every aspect of the fight game except for explosivity, but the first thing to start going when these guys get old are the reflexes... Ngannou is one of the few guys where you can't risk blocking any punches with your face.

I still think Stipe wins this, though.
