This aged interview with Stipe llustrates my issue with him He is NOT willing to put in the work needed for Dana to promote him. He's arrogant and MMA is Stipe's hobby, not his career. He was bitching then, and he's bitching now but Overeem deserves every dollar because he shows up.

I see him on Modelo commercials all the time and i never see or hear from Overeem until a week before the fight

I hate to criticize, but...Stipe complains a bit too much.

He sat out and demanded immediate rematch with DC...now talking about fighter pay despite only fighting 4 times in past 3 years and not even giving approximate timeline for return now?

As HW champion he should be making at least $5M to show. Ruiz as a last minute replacement against Joshua made $7M. The UFC is all about the promotion though not the fighters.
 
Reem isn't getting PPV points like the champ. When all is said and done, Stipe is making a lot more per fight than Reem.

It's also kinda dumb for a guy to be complaining about pay while saying he won't fight during this pandemic. Starting to look a lot like a contract dispute IMO. Stipe better not overplay his hand. DC/Ngannou would likely do every bit as well if not better than a DC/Stipe trilogy.

They were there to see the UFC. They might have cheered the home town boy, but I've seen casino gamblers on CT cheer the local prelim guys that they have no clue who they are

We don't know the buy rate, but Stipe should have easily cleared 1 mil after some PPV points..
 
Overveem has been fighting since 1999 at the highest level mostly, he deserves every dollar he gets. Also Reem gets a flat rate fee, no ppv points. He also doesnt get to be in Modelo commercials. When you crunch the numbers, Stipe probably makes MORE. Dont know what Stipe is complaining about.

It's not about turning on the guy, he just doesn't have the name recognition. It kind of reminds me of no name middleweights(relatively) complaining about Dan Henderson's salary a few years back.
Sherdog can still absolutely hate certain athletes, but that's irrelevant when it comes to fighter pay. I would wager Fedor, Crocop, Nogueira, and even Cain are bigger names than Stipe.

keep in mind that you get points over a minimum buy rate. And it's hard for Stipe to get past that buy rate since no one cares about seeing him fight.
 
Reem fights 2 to 3 times a year maybe more. Stipe might fight once ....... Stipe does no work at all to help UFC sell it, his only remarks are smug pot shots at Dana.

I used to like Stipe n he is top 3 ever MMA HW. Tired of his act now tho. He wants to just fight 1 more time his should fight Ngannou or Jones not DC
 
What's this about Stipe not being exciting to watch? I haven't seen all his fight but the ones I've seen were great.

This is about activity and risk imo. Dana usually rewards fighters who stay active and take risks. Reem is awesome and deserves it.
