I think Dana White wants to make Holly Holm vs Carano

I bet all my v-cash on it.

They're both stand-up fighters with limited grappling and limited takedowns. People want to see them stand and bang, so Dana White probably won't be able to sell a Miesha Tate vs Carano fight, because we all know how that would go down.

They're both really tricky from a promoter's standpoint, because it only takes one boring fight against a mediocre wrestler to make them both look really bad. So I'm guessing Dana White wants to build them up against other strikers, before putting them in a big fight against a decent grappler.

Cat Zingano, Amanda Nunes, Miesha Tate and Sarah McMann would probably get either of them down without difficulties.

Holly Holm vs Gina Carano. I for one would be super stoked to see it.

So I'm guessing Dana White wants to build them up

Holm, yes. Carano? Why build her up?

She hasn't fought in forever and she isn't dying to rekindle her MMA career such that it's fruitful for the next few years.

Seems like Carano is to be used as a one-time cash cow to me. Might as well pair her with and feed her to someone who'll make the fight bigger, and Holm isn't that person.

Combined 0 fights in the UFC.

And Holly Holm is NOT as big as some would think around here.

I think we new some pictures of both I can't seem to remember what they look like.

I don't really know about the US market, but I would think they want to make her relevant again before sacrificing her to some well-rounded ranked fighter.

She's got a name, but is she relevant? The last time she fought, I don't think HD TV even existed.

The thing is, I don't think they want to throw Carano to someone like Miesha Tate or Cat Zingano, because it would be a huge mismatch. I think it'd be easier to market Holly Holm than any of the other female strikers, like Alexis Davis or Sarah Kaufman.

And let's face it. Holly Holm looks better than most of the female fighters in the UFC. One of Carano's biggest advantages as a draw is her looks. So it makes sense to match her up with another good looking opponent, for the pretty posters and teaser trailers where they're both punching the bags in high heels and ballroom dresses.

They could potentially make a big promo, but i agree... Carano is probably coming back for one last big payday in MMA. And to be honest, we haven't seen Holly Holm's grappling unfortunately. She could be dangerous there too, but nobody seemed to even take a desperation shot in her previous fights.

Makes no sense for Carano to come back to MMA unless she is willing for fully comit to it.

I'm against Carano coming back straight into a title fight so I quite like this idea. However, I feel Gina loses and don't really think Holly is as big a star as some do. I think they should do Gina vs. Miesha. If Gina wins that, she will be a legit contender. If she loses, which she likely would, then at least you've maximised her star power as a fight with Tate would the second biggest money maker after the Rousey fight. Just my opinion but Holm Gina is fun too.
