It's not like I made the thread when Gas was a prospect. The writings been on the wall for Luke's skillset for a while. People told me that Luke has a much better ground game than Gastelum, which maybe true, we don't know for sure, but Luke's head movement, his boxing defence, his general fight I.Q pales in comparison to Kelvin. Chin does not equal skill, but it is part of what makes a fighter. If Gastelum's chin is rated at say 90 out of 100, then Luke's has to be 30 out of 100 tops.

I don't think it's fair to say that Gastelum is a better fighter than Whittaker just by judging the Adesanya fight. Robert is a brilliant fighter, he couldn't find success against 6ft4 Israel with his lunging strikes, but who knows how a fight between him and Kelvin goes.

Well, at some point in the not-to-distant past, Luke was better.

Gastelum lost relatively recently to Weidman. Didn't just lose, he got outclassed. For something like 12 out of 13 minutes.

Today, I would rate Gastelum as better than both Luke and Chris.

This thread is classically funny in a way you didn't intend.

Kelvin may be better than Luke at the moment but he'll never be able to pull off shit like this.

I still think Rockhold was a better and more skilled fighter than Gastelum.

Rockhold is too cocky and arrogant for his own good. But there was a time, when he was at his peak, he was easily the best MW in the world.

Gastelum is a very good middleweight for sure. Definitely better than Rockhold, especially at the moment.
People really should stop dismissing him as a "blown up welterweight wrestler".

This all depends on when you said.... and the UFC middleweight division has become so diluted and subjective since Bisping held division hostage, fought 15th ranked 48 year hendo as his only defense in which,LMFAO, he arguably lost, then waited for money grab fight vs a 4 year off the shelf welter (who was a -165 favorite) and was put to sleep.... then welter gastelum as a fucking -260 favorite- finished off the brit.

A few things, Luke was -900 favorite for a reason over bisping 2( nobody knew of the collapsed integrity of rockhold s chin).

Gastelum is a very good fighter and I dont care that " he fought better against izz than whitaker". This is the way the sport works. He is not a top 5 middleweight even though hed have a shot at upset if fought agsin. If someone can get the best of Kelvin Gastelum at welterweight....on fight night, he could become champ.

Gastelum is in an unfortunate but fortunate position right now.The 185 division doesn't have much to offer outside a few which I believe Kelvin loses to but RIGHT NOW IN UFC, he probably makes top 5.

Lastly, the Luke Rockhold that fought Machida and Chris would maybe feel kelvins power [ early]and just take him down to ground and FUCKING MELT the much smaller gastelum .

Rockhold has trash wrestling unless his opponent stumbles into getting taken down. Gas by brutal knockout.

As a kelvin fan, i'd love to see him fight rob now. Like his chances too.

Feel hermanson, canonier and maybe costa are the hard matchups for him at mw rn, mainly because of a huge physical advantage. Think jack would replicate weidman's fight and canon and costa would be hard af since they are good strikers too and arguably pack more power, while also being much larger men.

I'm not sure I agree with this. What time period are you referring to? 2012? 2014?

Current Rockhold would still beat him. Rockhold's fight IQ is still higher than Benz Bisping Fight Night.

Rockhold has only lost to buff and successful LHWs.

Depends on how you define 'better'.
Fat Kelvin is never becoming UFC Champion (for a real belt) so Rockhold is/was better.

Wait, what? Weidman got schooled in that fight till he finally took Kelvin down and strangled him. That was a horrible performance by The Chris overall.
