I need advice to improve my Gym in Akron, Please

First, glad to hear of a good gym in NE Ohio :)

I train at a large gym in CA. We have membership cards, a front desk right at the entrance, and strict monthly dues for all members ( though I think fighters get reduced fees - not really sure as I haven't fought for this gym yet).

Good gym management leads to a good gym. When people pay their dues, they feel invested in the gym. Otherwise, the gym is just a place to drop in and fuck around.

I'm sure you realize all this, and the problem is just convincing the owner to comply. Well, there are few options, as you are being paid to coach.

Option 1: Go all in. Say if there aren't drastic measure taken, you'll take your coaching skills somewhere else, and take your fighters with you.

Option 2: Convince the owner to make you or someone you trust gym manager. Make your contract stipulate that you have control over collecting dues and placing suspensions on late / non payers.

Regardless, you should totally dump the sex offender teaching kids classes. That's outrageous. If you can't convince the owner to remove him yourself, just tell one or two of the parents. The word will spread, and he'll be out.

Hope things work out

Your owner is just interested in Bulk.
Those dues are really low (which is great that you can do that).
But in the end you will mostly end up with Slackers that just want to be able to brag that "they train UFC" :)

The sex offender thing is a timebomb.
If ANYTHING goes wrong in the Gym and that comes out it will be bad.

You were able to stay open and produce competitors.
That says a LOT.
You are doing fine and you know what to do to fix it.

I forgot to upload pics. I just found a few.

I guess one big problem is that this big place is sort of a rec center. people just walk in and out all the time. Some to use the batting cges, some the arcade, others come in for the basketball court. That means guys can just walk past the desk, and we won't always know they are headed back to the gym. I suggested they hire someone to man a desk in the entrance to the gym itself, which is just a curtain btw.
I like that membership card idea!

Nice spot :)

where you guys located? I come home for a few weeks during Xmas and it'd be nice to have a spot to train

Hey Man,

Sorry to hear you are in a bind. Let me know if there is anything you need from us here at Title MMA. Always looking to help gyms in any way we can.

Hey,
We just ordered two title belts from you guys for our next show. Fast shipping, but a little dissappointed that there is no wholesaler discount on title belts.

We are at 2420 wedgewood drive, akron oh 44310. Pronio Sports Complex, next to ace hardware in the acme plaza.

One more thing...
You're posting a lot of inside info on a searchable public website.
I would consider deleting it if I were you.

Yeah, our margins aren't great on the belts. We pretty much just offer them as a convenience for customers.

Thanks for the concern, but I'm not worried about it. All this information is mostly opinions. The address and name is searchable on many public websites.
As for letting the registered sex offender bit out of the bag, I'd LOVE to get him kicked out for more reasons than just that. He has a history of going to other mma gyms in the area (including my old one) and basically stealing students, offering to train them for very cheap in his home gym. In fact he has a few fighters out of his basement, even some tough guys. I warned the owner and promoter about this aswell, but they called me paranoid. Any experienced martial artist reading this knows that there are guys out there that steal students.
I definately suspect that he encourages some of these guys to sneak in to our facility for free.
Martial arts dojo aren't supposed to be soap operas.
