    Enright convinced me to make a food log, so here it is. I don't really have any nutritional goals. I just wanna get stronger.


    Let me put some details about myself.

    I'm about 5'8" and 170 pounds. Been lifting seriously for about 2 years. I lift 2 days a week and do not do cardio unless I happen to be playing a sport. I think that is about all the important info..

    My eating from yesterday

    7-16-10

    1 banana - 150 calories
    1 peanut butter and jelly sandwich - 500 calories (2 slice bread, 3tbsp peanut butter, unknown jelly)
    16oz milk - 260 calories
    1 bag lays kettle cooked chips - 1350 calories
    1 12oz tub of french onion dip - 660 calories
    11 bags of walmart fruit snacks - 1100 calories
    3 slices of NY style pizza ~ 900 calories (hard to measure this..)
    3 beers (Grolsch) - 450 calories


    Should I make an attempt to list calorie counts for each food item? I am pretty new at this.

    I wouldn't bother with a calorie count.

    Check out the FAQs. There's some key information in there.

    If you're looking to put on mass, you need to consume more calories that your body requires. If you want to lose weight then it's just the opposite. Google a BMR Calculator to find out how many calories you burn in a day. Also keep track of your protein intake. It looks like you need way more protein than you're consuming.

    I'm assuming you have some sort of workout routine.

    If you're looking to add mass, then you don't have to get totally crazy on your diet to clean it up, but you need adequate protein and you should ditch the refined sugars and beer and try and add some more veggies and fruits.

    Yeh I wanna get fat and strong like a powerlifter.

    edit: and that is like 80g of protein for the day. It is pretty unusual for me to not eat meat, though. I usually supplement protein, as well.

    Just curious, how much did you weigh before you started lifting seriously for the past 2 years?

    I'm 5' 8 1/2", and my weight stays around 162lbs.

    I know you didn't gain weight for that whole time period, but I'm just looking for a frame of reference for how much weight I might stand to gain once I start lifting seriously.

    Damn, you're definitely doing a lot of things right to gain 35lbs so far. Makes my goal of getting to 175 look more reachable now, lol.

    As for your goal, I think markulous is right on the money with what you might want to do with your diet.

    I was a "hardgainer" and had pretty low bodyfat % at 135 pounds. Your results might not be the same.. but it is definitely possible to gain weight.

    1 tube of saltine crackers
    3 big burgers at this barbecue
    6 regular coors
    4 coronas

    I'll probably eat some more before bed tho cause I'm starving right now.

    1 ~8oz grilled chicken breast w/ tons of barbecue sauce + hot sauce
    16oz 2% milk
    bunch of disguisting french fries

    And sadly, no beer today. I don't have any more beer and I'm too lazy to go out and get some. I'll probably resume my daily beer drinking on tuesday.. or maybe tomorrow.

    the food selection is mostly based on choosing foods that are high in calories and low in "fullness factor" to make it easier for me to gain calories.
