I Just Realized What The UFC Is Angling Toward With Conor, GSP, and WW.

My first wildly speculative conspiracy theory thread ! How exciting !!

RDA vs. Conor for WW title
Conor vs. Gsp for WW title and biggest fight in UFC history

As you may remember, UFC 196’s main event was originally slated to be Conor McGregor vs. Rafael dos Anjos for the LW title. Despite some decent build-up, this fight fell through when RDA was injured. RDA went on to lose the title to Eddie Alvarez, and we all know what happened from there.

We’re all clear by now that WME are looking to make money first and foremost, not run a sports league based on rewarding the most deserving competitors.

Now that RDA is tearing things up at WW, we will see him get the next title shot.

IF RDA defeats Woodley, which he may well by following a similar gameplan that Rory did, that would make him only the fifth man to hold titles in two weight divisions. The next step after that will be Conor saying he has unfinished business with RDA.

That alone will be a massive fight for with Conor going for his third divisional title against one of only four other men besides him to have won two divisional titles.

I think RDA wins that fight personally, but I won’t be shocked either way. Conor controls distance very well, is very fast, hits very hard, and has excellent timing, and RDA has proven hittable and hurtable.

Should Conor win, that opens the door to the biggest fight the UFC can make:
Conor vs. GSP for the WW title. And you’re crazy if you don’t think they’re salivating at that chance.

I think the biggest obstacle to all this is it would require Conor to finally defend a title !

There's too many steps to that.

These days UFC goes directly to phase 3 without all that tedious phase 1 and 2 stuff. Belts are just meaningless fluff these days anyway, something to help various bums feel more important.

I fully expect the UFC to make a new GOAT belt and give that to the winner of GSP vs Conor. That helps them to skip all the bums, which is essentially every other fighter in the UFC. Mark my words, GSP's and Conor's next fight is with each other. The real question is how they will attempt to market it.

The first two fights are plausible. The third is not because Conor simply doesn't defend titles.

The UFC is probably angry that GSP vacated the MW title. They would have preferred that he strung along his colitis excuse for 12-18 months, then he could defend the MW title against Conor should Conor capture the WW title.

I have said this countless times...

GSP gets the MW belt. GSP goes back and gets the WW belt becoming the second simultaneous 2 division champ in UFC history (although he vacated so that part of my scenario is out the window). The UFC then sets up the ultra mega fight with GSP and Conor at WW, giving Conor the (SLIM) chance of becoming the first 3 division champ in UFC history, but GSP smokes Conor and rides off into the sunset.

They mattered when Conor was thirsty for reputation and money, but now he's a multi-multi-millionaire what does he need belts for?

and all GSP needs is Conor

The hard part will be making conor fight at all, and maketing the fight so it's even worth his while. A 10 million payday is a lot to GSP but it'll take a lot more to bring conor to the table, then it's a case of making sure they actually bring in the revenue to pay the bills.
