I haven't paid attention the last 10 days or so

Consensus that last 3 events were very subpar. The one today was alright. Couple of good ones, a couple of bad ones.

Fell off about 2 months ago. usually check in about this time to see if there is a card on.
Last 2 came on early, didn't care enough to check results.

Basically, Paulo Costa, who is the biggest weight cutter at MW - https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/compilation-of-fighters-cage-weight-redux.3977251/ , had injured himself in camp and was gonna come in over the MW weight limit.

Normally, the dude goes from 215 to 185 for his fights during the fight week. So it's normal for him to cut 30lbs. This week, however, he showed up weighing over 220lbs. Not that the human body can be expected to behave mathematically like this, but he was probably gonna weigh in somewhere between 190lbs and 195lbs.

So he'd go through all the usual grueling weight cutting only to still give Marvin the 20% penalty pay. So Costa, in one of the interviews, pitched a 195lbs catchweight. His appetite for comfort grew and, seeing as how Marvin is the 2nd biggest weight cutter at MW, it wasn't a stretch to just pitch 205lbs. Which they both agreed to do.

What you saw tonight was, effectively, two blown up MWs duking it out at LHW, with Costa having the slight weight advantage on fight night, which according to Dana was 208lbs vs 220lbs, but 206 vs 728 according to Marvin's manager, Ali. You can choose who you wanna believe. We know Marvin's been as big as 211lbs on fight night.

As a result, Dana wants Costa to move up to LHW permanently, meanwhile a lot of fans wanna see how well Vettori could do at LHW. Vettori won a lot of fans for being game and proving himself in his first LHW bout.

@Herwald's post is about as good a summary of this week's Main Event as anyone is going to write.

The only point i'd quibble with here is Paulo Costa's assertion that a damaged left bicep was the reason why he couldn't make it to 185lbs this time. Utter horseshit from Costa : a damaged bicep would not, in any way, prevent anyone from doing cardio workouts and eating right and making weight. Costa was lying there, (maybe his bicep WAS damaged, but that is *not* a reason for all this stupid shit this week).

Costa just didn't bother and he figured out that the UFC *needed him* this week so that's the game he played. Now the fight is over, there is a price for Costa to pay and that's the "no more 185 for you boy, it's 205lbs every time, see how you like that".

To plagiarize a phrase from Shakespeare's writings : The UFC always get their pound of flesh

Just watch Costa vs Vettori, everything else was passable unless history proves me wrong

The Mason Jones vs David Onama fight was EXCELLENT.
Definitely one of the best fights on that card : all action, non-stop stuff, back-and-forth.
That fight, and the Main Event were two very good fights. I hope Mason Jones and Onama got some extra bonuses for that, they certainly deserved it.
