I like the Smith machine, however, it is not my first choice. I like that it can be secured at a range of points.

I've always thought it would be possible to design a Smith-like machine with guides that flex or something to allow for a lifting arc.

Such a device exists... it is a Smith machine with both horizontal and vertical tracks, allowing free horizontal movement of the bar.

However, it is still majorly queer.
