Bisping just came off a definitive loss to Tim Kennedy. Cung Le has been inactive for awhile, but last KO'd Rich Franklin cold, which is a better win than Bisping has ever accomplished. Le might only have 1 or 2 more fights left in him. Stands to reason that you'd want to give him a fight where the opponent stands to gain something from the win and is deserving of the fight. You have Kennedy, Rockhold, and even Jacare who could use the win over Le to get the casuals interested in them. And if you want to just showcase Le's striking, there's better striking based fighters out there that offer more excitement than Bisping's hit and run style.

This fight just seems like a terrible waste of what little is left of Cung Le's MMA career. Bisping doesn't deserve it off merit and it could have been used as a way to elevate the opponent with a win.

I don't like Bisping either, but this is a good test for him and Cung imo, shows where Bisping really stands in the division (IMO, with the development of the MW division, he might not even be top 10.)

It's just a fun fight between two guys who are not in a title picture. Plus they have a enough name appeal to headline a free card in an emerging market.

    Plus Le agreed to it.

If nothing else, we get to see Bisping get KO'd again.

I'm too lazy to look, but I do t even think Lee is even ranked? It's not like he is making a title run. This match up makes sense to me.....

UFC's trying to sell more MMA to two of its biggest markets, UK and China, by pitting two gatekeepers trying to prove they are still worth their spot at the margin they stand in.

and here I was wondering what Cung Le has done in the last 19 months to earn a fight with one of the most recognized TUF champions of all time and pioneer for the sport of MMA in his country.

Bisping doesn't deserve Cung fucking Le? LOL

I dislike Bisping as much as the next guy but Cung Le is a gimmick! He fights once a year at the most and never against any wrestlers or top 15 fighters. Bisping > Cung Le

Cung Le and Bisping agreed to fight before Bisping lost to Kenedy.
It's a set up for Return of Anderson Silva vs winner.

This is just a name fight to get Bisping moving up the ranks again. I don't see how Cung wins this unless he gets a flash KO. He is old and was never really top level UFC MW. I respect what he has done, but he is past his prime! There is a reason he has been working in Asia for the UFC and not competing;)

He's a name and he's ranked. Cung has been inactive and hasn't been ranked in some time. It's a fun fight to sell in that market. Cung doesn't appear to have any interest in making a title run at this point anyway, he's got many irons in the fire. It's good fight for what it is, you don't really need to look at it any more in depth than that. It's there to serve a purpose for that specific market.

Well, Cung Le last KNOCKED OUT Rich Franklin. That's a nice notch in your belt, regardless of inactivity. The least the UFC can do is give him someone coming off a win.

And Bisping and "fun matchup" don't belong in the same sentence. This guy is the epitome of playing it safe. We're not going to see an exciting fight if he has his way

Cung le's win over Rich Franklin is better than any win Bisping has ever had

People want to see Bisping knocked out. Le unexpectedly did it to Franklin, so they're hoping he can give the fans another H-Bomb on Bisping and Sherdoggers another once-in-a-lifetime shoop opportunity

    Shit thread.

They are both deserving of fighting each other.

I'm going with Cung on this one. Cung is a better point fighter then bisping and I don't think bisping has the power to knock Cung out.

Fight still make sense since since they need Cung because is in Asia and bisping because of the name value as a main event.

The UFC has pushed and promoted Bisping to such a degree that he's become a very recognizable name. And they use him to headline a lot of the non-US fight night/TUF finale cards. This will be the fifth time in his last 9 fights that he's headlined. Just another opportunity to keep milking him for all he's worth.

Bisping has more appeal with the casual fan than Cung Le
