I don't really understand how anyone but Jones is in the GOAT conversation.

I know this topic has been beaten to death, and I don't say this as a particularly big Jones fan (I love Gus and I like DC so) but this is perplexing to me. Before I joined Sherdog I had no idea this was a debate. Fedor and GSP are right there for 2 and 3 but crucially both slipped up and lost. Fedor's Nog win is fantastic and GSP's Penn and Hughes wins are too but DC, Rashad, Gus, Shogun, Machida, Glover. I mean that's a murderers row.

Most importantly though just the eye test it's hard to deny Jones. I rewatched the Glover fight recently and he's using so many creative techniques and just forcing his will onto his opponent in the most beautiful way. Now if DC beats him, and he very well could, then he finally has that blemish and a discussion can start. But until someone matches him I just can't fathom anyone else being the greatest mixed martial artist.

Jones may be the best on paper, but I think Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best fighter in the UFC. I think he is going to win the LW belt in dominant fashion and then later down the line retire truly undefeated

GSP is a boring wrestler, Fedor never fought in the UFC. Where's Cruz in this conversation?

Fedor and GSP slipping up and losing doesn't really disqualify them from the GOAT discussion. Jones' career isn't over yet.

Let him first beat Ferguson and let us pray he doesn't get injured before that fight happens.

Jon Jones is and has been the GOAT. GSP, Fedor and Anderson have tasted defeated. Jones has never been finished or decisioned and cleared out the entire division even to the point of making it look weak.

Unless you dominate in a weak era in a non-testing organization, and then go on to lose repeatedly when you move to a stricter org, you will never be the GOAT.

I put Silva and Fedor over Jones for the same reason I put them over GSP. If Jones was to move up and beat any current or former HW champion who is not over-the-hill old, THEN I would probably be willing to say he is 'arguably' the GOAT.

Because it's all opinionated.

I honestly don't even like the term GOAT. People have so many definitions for GOAT or p4p. And if you really think about, these terms are beyond laughable.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy comparing two fighters, the competition they faced and how they would fare against each other, but beyond that, it's pointless to argue the GOAT across all weight divisions.

I don't know, maybe in my mind it's more realistic to rank fighters in the same division.

But i guess it's pointless either way.

stop this goat shit while everyone is still an active fighter. What happens when jones starts losing and has his own 3 fight skid?

He's definitely the GOAT LHW. Probably the pound-for-pound GOAT as well. But I don't believe you can be the true GOAT by cutting weight to avoid the best fighters.

All he needs to do is grab that heavyweight belt and I'll agree.

Are you insane????!!!!!

Khabib got a gift decision vs Gleison Tibau, and had to go into the trenches to beat Pat freakin' Healy! Khabib's striking is poor, he's so overrated it's not even funny.

Ronda, Aldo, Mighty Mouse, Barao and Jones have all been considered pound for pound #1 over the last 2 years.

Well if you watched Anderson in his prime you'd understand.

If you look at who holds the most records you'd further understand.

Jon Jones is superior to fedor any day of the week. GSP has the best, highly ranked wins though.

GSP
Jones
Fedor
Silva
Fuck knows who is next.

With a couple more wins Jones is GOAT

Gsp
Jones (will become #1 if he don't screw up)
Silva
Cruz
Fedor
