I don't play games - I had a ps2 and liked games as a kid. But I don't understand what the appeal of watching someone else play a game is?

Evidently this is massively popular? But why?

I'd only watch videos showing how to get past a certain part of a level or see how others are using a certain mobile suit.

I like watching people beat the old retro games on nes or sega that I never could. Thats about it.

Same. Our very own @FPS Shooter has his own YouTube channel called One Credit Classics and that’s what he does.

I’ll also watch @Clippy play classic doom maps made by other users.

I don’t know if either of those count as actual “streaming” however because they’re not live. Is a live broadcast necessary for it to be actually considered “streaming”? I don’t actually know these things.

nah

I mean i was just wondering if people have the same reasons for appeal

like i sometimes watch my friend play games because he makes it seem like a party with his chat and he's kinda funny

A lot of streamers are really damn good at their chosen games. I really only watch a handful of Youtubers and pretty much only about Total War games. The only actual streamer I watch sometimes is Legend of Total War. He is not only one of the best single player TW players out there, he's also the absolute best at cheesing the game in sometimes hilarious ways. You can pick up a lot of tips just by watching him play. He also does a variety of video uploads like top 10 lists and Saving Your Disaster Campaign where people send in totally screwed campaign save files and he gets them out of bad situations.

What's the appeal of watching someone play Golf? What's the appeal in watching Kim Kardashian buy another purse?

Thanks friend

Yeah I'm just into recording videos to upload at my leisure

I don't think I'd ever want to stream live

For a lot of people they like being part of a community as well that likes the same games that they do.

I don’t understand it at all. Maybe if you are a kid
And are poor and can’t afford games or afford a PC to play some games?

I’d rather play the game myself rather than watch someone.

And the comparison to sports is hilarious. I watch sports because it’s the best people out there going at it. Watching some guy destroy people on a FPS multiplayer isn’t the same. It would be like watching Jon Jones fighting some 0-0 amateur.

I watch some speed runs of popular games from the past, and a lot of them are absolutely mind boggling. They don't really play the game as much as they straight up break the game. A very popular speed run is Ocarina of Time..most people it takes roughly 20-40 hours to beat the game, but these speed runners have taken the run all the way down to just under 13 minutes.

In terms of just watching someone play the game (rather than a speed run or worlds first type events) I don't really find it very exciting.

Just for fun there's an older speed run of Ocarina of Time where the runner explains all the glitches and gives a good history of how the speed run has been altered over the years. Of course this is outdated now because of new glitches, but it's still interesting to me.

did you play sports as a kid? Do you watch sports now?

It’s the same thing.
im 40 I love video games still dont get why people would fill an arena to watch people play other videogames, or follow guys like Ninja play? Although I do follow some youtubers but its mostly for tips on what guns to use on COD etc. Oh well must be a generational gap hahaha

If Jon Jones wasn’t actually fighting him and it was just a computer simulation.
