I do not understand how this guy did not tap

His shit is probably already torn to shreds and he's just like, meh, fuck it. Like when one of the Ruotolos was kneebarring one of the Miyaos.

Besides the fact that our good mongolian friend appears to be made of rubber, the main limiting factor there was that Mikey was wasting a lot of the effort by rolling and turning, which means none of that effort is going into the leg. You want to essentially eliminate any ability by the opponent to roll in the moment you are making the break, keep him stuck in place, and impart twist on the leg through your grip as you extend, or compress it with a side crunch. Mikey was doing a lot of pulling the foot across his chest, which is a common mistake even many otherwise very good guys can make if they are less familiar with heel hooks in particular, and is basically a useless gesture that only gives the opponent opportunities to escape.

For sake of comparison, see how it looked when Craig Jones broke Vinny Magalhaes' leg.

Mikey said post fight he felt his leg pop like 20 times. Said he felt nauseated just thinking about it. Mongolian went to the hospital later

I guess that mindset would be extremely valuable in a life and death situation, but...damn o_O

he was rotating his upper body and he has what appears to be called dancers feet.

There's a mentality with some people that they don't feel the injury until after the fight

looks like he was getting pulled into bad situations but was able to get out

probably an accumulation of injuries over any one

It's being reported that there's a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, plus a broken ankle. Out for at least 12 months.

Never understood this. Just tap. You’re had, don’t cripple yourself. Pride is a hell of a drug. I wonder if it will carry him now that his leg is gone.

This. To me, it's not even something remotely admirable - some folks will say he's got guts/grit/warrior drive whatever, but I just see it as an egomaniac who can't admit when he's been beaten.

The other part of this is that it affects his ability to train and make money.

So it’s a double wammy of not being able to do what you love to do plus not being able to create revenue and compete.

I think refs need the ability to stop the fight due to technical submission. Ridiculous. If it were a Frank Mir vs. Big Nog type situation they would obviously stop it. If it were a Mir vs. Sylvia type situation they would stop it. But it's on the knees so they let it go?

WHY IGNORE 50% OF THE BODY?

I think part of the problem there is that it's harder to tell with with things like heel hooks, toe holds, and strait ankle locks, whether it has actually gone past the guy's range of motion, or if he is just that flexible. Lack of experience in seeing these submissions applied is also a contributing factor.

There's nothing admirable about this. He's a moron.

And Thiago Santos did almost the same to his knees (both) while fighting Jon Jones....he kept fighting....because he's a god damn warrior.

Easy for you to judge sitting at the computer sir.

Thiago Santos' problem was kicking while flatfooted, which torqued his knee. IOW, skill issue. He quite possibly could have won that fight otherwise, and very nearly did even still. There was no reason for him to give up there because it was all on him.

Bayanduuren on the other was a hardhead who disrespected Mikey by refusing to give him the credit for having him dead to rights. The whole point of submissions is to say 'okay, you got me', when the opponent puts you in a position where death or dismemberment would result if things continued, so you can avoid the whole death or dismemberment part.

Well, he refused to tap, so dismemberment resulted. See how it works?
