I remember when I saw overeem having a hard time doing pull-ups, or that Hannibal King guy being a pull-up legend. It's impressive, until you realize that these kind of movements depend a lot on your proportions and overall weight.

Wasn't pull-ups but muscle ups, which are hard as shit at any weight, but obviously harder for bigger guys.

Gotta say Cowboy beating Dodson on that last I-beam obstacle was fucking impressive. If anything, Dodson's smaller weight and proportions should give him an advantage. Testament to Cowboy's conditioning and athleticism for sure.

Or that Dodson is an overblown small man.

I don't know man. I've always thought Dodson was one of the most P4P athletic guys in any weight class. And he's a lot closer to the Ninja Warrior build than Cowboy. Those obstacle courses were built for 5' 5" 140 lbs Japanese guys. Bet Dodson would tear it up if he ever went on that show.

EDIT: I suck at making arguments. Looks like he went on a few years ago and didn't pass the first stage.

But being athletic isn't about lifting your weight like they did in the video. Athleticism comes a lot from the core, not pull-ups.

I can see your point. Dodson is all compact fast twitch muscle. These "Ninja" courses favor rock climber physiques. Cowboy is bigger than ideal for sure, but he does have a long lean build like climbers.

But considering he's primarily a striker and has never shown in any of his fights sustained grip/pulling strength like he demonstrates here, I'm sticking with it's still impressive as hell.

The last one is fuckin tough. Gripping a thin sheet of steel (or whatever metal it is) and climbing up it briefly is much harder than it looks.
