I didn’t feel like any of Holloway’s punches were hurting Poirier

I was watching with my friends and I just didn’t see any real damage from all those punches.

I wanted Max to win, but if he hit harder he could have had this fight.

I’m a little disappointed. I felt like Poiriers punches were taking his head off.

He said himself he was badly hurt several times.

No power/pop in his punches at 155

In an interview after though Dustin said max had him hurt bad in the 3rd and he felt the fight slipping away, and then said fuck it “if your gonna put me out you have to put my all the way out” and started swinging back

Expert analysis there chief. If only we'd noticed, or one of the commentators had mentioned it.

I feel Max should have added more steam to his punches, and less pep.

  6. I only heard him say he got hurt in the 3rd, but I haven't seen the press conference yet so I'll check right now what he says there.

Regardless, there's hurt and then there's hurt. Anyone who watched that fight objectively knows that Poirier never got hurt like Holloway did. Holloway is a guy who's made a career off eating shots and never showing that he was affected by them. He couldn't even aspire to maintain that poker face against Poirier, the dude was wobbling all over the place constantly. He was getting absolutely fucked up and that isn't debatable.

Poirier on the other hand is a guy who's chinny at best and has been dropped/knocked out many times in the past. He takes damage very poorly, yet Holloway still couldn't significantly stagger him, let alone drop him. So yes, Holloway 'hurt' him as in landed some punches that slowed his offense down briefly, but he never hurt him the way he was getting hurt.

Also, Max's chin is being drastically overrated. Every time Poirier touched him, he rocked him. He showed great heart & determination but thats not the same as having a great chin. Man got hurt in every single round

Dustin was stunned several times, but Max was definitely hurt worse. Still don't see how one can eat those kinds of shots, never drop, and have an "overrated chin" though <45>

You're wrong. Max ate a fucking barrage of punches in the first, which finished a guy like Gaethje. He's got a damn good chin and recovery. Dustin hits incredibly hard.

Max may have lost, TS, but he had Dustin hurt a handful of times against the cage. The fight was closer than the scorecards, IMO .

Max is too weak at lightweight...

He can hurt you with his flurry of combo punches but he doesn't have that one punch power to really put away these bigger lightweights.

Lol there were a few times Max had him on the cage where he looked like he was hurt and in real trouble. Did you watch the fight ?

I’m seeing a lot of stupid conclusions being drawn after this fight

Holloway's hits were starting to have an effect (and there were some good flurries), but he lost too much from the early rounds and Porier was able to keep him at bay for a good part of the fight. I think it would have started to turn if there was a round 6.

I think adding steamed broccoli to his punches would be more healthful than pepperoni. I could be wrong, I'm no dietician.

Max had him hurt but max was already damage goods by then. A rush of adrenalin got him going but as soon as the round is done, Dustin was able to reset.

Not loading up on his punches is why he can keep up high volume and big combinations even in the later rounds, and a big part of why he's a successful fighter.

The problem was the striking he took, not what he dished out.

The pressure was getting to Poirier but he managed to stop the momentum with hard punches and a few good knees when it counted.
