Hey Guys.

Joined my local gym last week where we do no-gi BJJ 2x per week and then 1 session of striking and another wrestling. Absolutely love it but struggling with pretty much all the techniques. Where to put my left foot, where to put my right foot. Starting to feel a bit like the odd one out at the gym as I don't seem to get things first time.

Did anyone else experience this or do I simply suck and give up on life? (Ha)

I have always been a slow learner at BJJ, and I've been training for 8 years. I like it enough that I don't let it bother me too much and I just learn at my own pace. Don't give up on life, especially not because you aren't a natural at BJJ.

I appreciate and admire your honesty. I'll be honest I've never rolled. Just wanted to encourage you though, I say hang in there and keep learning and growing man. Just 2 cents from a random guy on the internet haha

You do not suck at all. Grappling is hard. I'm an extremely unathletic guy and small (5'7 and 140lbs) but I kept at it. Perfect practice makes perfect. Keep trying and train with intention. Drill your movements when you can. I'm the example of the try guy. I still get steam rolled by competitor guys at my gym and that's OK with me. I'm 10 years training and counting! I love every second of it all. What I lacked in athleticism and strength, I had to keep up with refinement of technique :)

Dont worry so much about small stuff like where to put your feet in an exact spot or the perfect time to do xyz. Look at the movement, and look at the end resulting position. How you get there is going to be different for everyone.

Broham, just keep going. Shake hands, say thank you after training. Just keep swimming like Dori. One day it starts to click. Ive never been good but keep training on and off because I love it. I love the sport. Love what it does for me mentally and physically. Thats all I could ask for.

As a 6 month white belt.

Don't compare yourself to other people, only compare yourself to yourself from last week. You can't use other people as a measuring stick for how well you're doing because it will just demotivate you. Don't worry about tapping other people, eventually it will happen. Listen to your coach and ask questions, not just to your coach, but to your training partners as well.

Most important of all, have fun.

If you love it it doesn't matter. Time will make you better and hopefully increase the love for it. Keep training.
